Jeffery's obituary

   Jeffery Alan Stanley

11-29-1966 - 03-4-2025

Jeff passed away peacefully at home after a long and grueling battle with GBM brain cancer. He approached his end the way he lived his life, with optimism, determination, humor, curiosity, and his most defining quality, courage. He was never afraid to speak his mind and stand up for what he believed in, and  was always there to love and support his friends and family. Jeff fought through unimaginable trials, surgeries, chemo, radiation, and rehabs, and he defeated the odds again and again, surpassing his original survival prognosis five times over. Despite the slim odds he kept his hopeful and positive attitude reassuring to his loved ones, and endearing him quickly to his entire care team of dedicated doctors, nurses, and hardworking CN’s, all of whom he was so grateful and lucky to have on his side. For Jeff it was never just about himself, and his determination was deeply rooted in his love and devotion for his family. He was a devoted and loving father, husband, brother, and son, and is survived by his wife and partner of over 35years, Terri Stanley, his daughter Jordan Stanley, son Ian Stanley, parents Bill and Sharon Stanley, brother Willis Stanley(Emily) and his in laws, Ruby Gratch, Mark Gratch, Michele Renee (Ravi), Robyn Gratch Kelley (Sean), Scott Gratch, and all his nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all of whom he loved with his whole heart. His passing leaves our place in this world missing a shining light.

Jeff was a lover of the outdoors, hiking, camping, and fishing, and it was in nature where he felt the most at home. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout in his high school years, and grew up exploring the woods and swamps of East Texas where he was raised. He often stated that is where he felt his deepest peace and communion with the divine. And he was passionate about preserving natural spaces for the generations to come. Jeff was a lover of the arts and a prolific painter, photographer, and artist, attending Southwest Texas Sate University and majoring in Fine Arts, he appreciated all things beautiful in this world. He loved serving and sharing his talents with the community and was active in the Unitarian Universalist congregation of Geneva, volunteering with every opportunity, from the pizza booth, Lazarus House, the cookie walk, to clean up and security. But what he most loved was his work with the LRE and YRUU youth groups, this was really a joy for him. He loved all the kids and felt deeply proud of the young adults they have now become.

Jeff had a dynamic career in International Supply Chain Management and contract negotiation and was exceedingly successful within his industry. This career path afforded his intrepid soul a unique opportunity for world travel. He was deeply grateful for being able to spend so much time in France and Sweden which he loved. He was also able to travel throughout Europe, spending time in England, Germany, Spain, Canada, Singapore, Taiwan, Mexico, Brazil, and India. These experiences shaped his open and caring nature, and he made lasting friendships with many of his overseas and local colleagues. He spoke often and kindly about his travels, the connections he made, and the insights he gained that helped define his outlook on life. His was a life well lived; he loved deeply, and was deeply and truly loved in return. His generosity of spirit , steadfast loyalty, integrity, humor, and courage will be sorely missed.

A celebration of his life will be held at a time as yet to be determined and if anyone feels inclined, in lieu of flowers, there is memorial fund set here for his family to cover costs of his memorial and family travel. Thank you all for being part of Jeff’s life . We will never forget the kindness and support we received from so many friends and family, and we never would have been able to make it through without every one of you. May all who read this be happy and well, and may your lives be lived with truth, kindness, gratitude, peace, and love. Please feel free to leave your thoughts, comments, and stories about Jeff here for his family. Blessings to you all!
