Update from Jan. 28, 2022
On January 25th, 2022, on what would have been his 74th birthday, in the presence of close friends and family, Jeffery Lee McComb was finally laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. These hallowed grounds of rolling hills dotted with over hundred year old trees, overlooking the peaceful Potomac River and historic national monuments, provided the perfect landscape to honor the lifetime of service and sacrifice Jeff made to his country. Jeff received full military honors, including a horse drawn caisson and band, flag ceremony and bugler for the playing of Taps, a firing squad salute, and a heartfelt service conducted by USN Chaplain Lt. Brandy Brown. I trust all who attended would agree that the service was quite befitting the man.
Although the delay with his interment was a bit tough to endure, it is more than worth the wait to see that our father is now resting with dignity and honor where he belongs. For those who would like to visit his gravesite (Section 55: Gravesite 3481) at Arlington in the future, his headstone will be in place within the next 90-120 days. I will update here when that final task is completed.
Update from Dec. 6, 2021
We hope this holiday season finds everyone and their loved ones doing well. It has been well over a year since Jeff's passing, but we have finally confirmed a date and time for his interment at Arlington National Cemetery (ANC). Currently, there are no restrictions on the number of attendees, so all family and friends are welcome to attend. The ceremony itself will be quite brief (30 minutes) at gravesite, with full military honors. We will not be posting any further details publicly, so for those who follow this site and would like to attend, please email me through this site, or contact a member of Jeff's family for date, time, and ANC visitation instructions.
God bless to you all,
Brian D.
Update from Jan. 25, 2021
Today, Monday January 25, 2021, would have been my Dad's 73rd birthday here on Earth. In years past, this day was always the day when I would call him to wish him a happy birthday, and we would work out our plans for Dad to come down in a couple weeks for an extended stay, during Daytona Speed Week. We have so many fond memories of those visits, and he will be sorely missed during this year's races.
In memoriam of Dad, on his birthday, we donated the funds his friends and family so graciously gave in lieu of flowers at his passing to The NASCAR Foundation. In total we were able to collect $1000 that has now gone to a great cause and organization that focuses on children who need help the most. Through this donation, my Dad's passions live beyond his passing, and for this we are grateful to each of you who contributed.
In closing, I know some of you are hoping to attend Dad's final burial at Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) later this year. I spoke with a representative from the ANC a few weeks ago, and we are still waiting for a scheduler to be assigned to his case. It likely will not be until April or May before I have more information, but we are in the queue, and I will update when I have more information.
God bless to you all... and Happy Birthday Dad, in heaven.
