Jeffery's obituary
Jeffery Donnell Maryland (aka “Nut”) was born on November 3, 1959 to the late John and Katherine (aka “Kitty”) Maryland in Nashville, Tennessee.
While growing up in the roots of the “West Side”, he was always smiling and adventurous. Taking on the love for baseball landed him a spot on the team Kappa Kittens at a very young age. Later in life he picked up a passion for golf and roller skating. If you were at the Rivergate Center on a Sunday night, you were guaranteed to see Jeffery dancing effortlessly on skates while grooving to old school music with his friends. Don’t let age fool you! He continued this tradition well past the age of sixty. Jeffery also loved to play golf at Ted Rhodes Golf Course and even played in tournaments all over the city.
Jeffery attended the neighborhood schools of Moses McKissack, Wharton, W.A. Bass, and graduated from Cohn High School in June of 1977. During this time he also accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior.
He is preceded in death by his father, John E. Maryland, Sr.; his mother, Katherine Maryland; his brothers, James “Ronnie” Miller and John E. Maryland, Jr.
Jeffery is survived and will be missed by his brother, Venciel (Hazel) Marsh; his sisters, Vandolyn Smith, Deborah Donaldson, Sheila (Herman) Hastings, Glorya Maryland, and Sandra (William) Griffey, Sr.; an aunt, Juanita Miller; a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will also be missed by his dear friends of Georgia Court, Preston Taylor, and his Rivergate Skating Family. Namely, Mill Carter, Nathan Pierce, Anthony Smith, Elder Roy, Tony and Gene Ewing; many other friends and relatives.
