Jeff's obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jeff Aakeberg, born Sep 17, 1964, who departed this life on Dec 18, 2025. He was a cornerstone of his family and community, known for his quiet and thoughtful demeanor, a hint of a playful joker, and most of all, his steadfast and devout faith.
Jeff is survived by his loving daughters, Cheryl Aakeberg, his caring ex-wife Michele Aakeberg, his sisters, Carrie Mason and Tara Kemmer, his stepmother Judy Aakeberg, his brother Robert Stubblefield, his niece Makenzie DiSerio, and nephew Keaton Kemmer. He was predeceased by his parents Jerry Aakeberg and Sharon Stubblefield. He is also survived by his stepfather, Bob Stubblefield.
Married in 1984, Jeff welcomed his child into the world in the following year. His dedication to spiritual enlightenment saw him achieve Ordained Minister Status in 2022, preceded by becoming a Small Group Leader in his church in 2008. He was an active participant of the New Life Community Church, his faith serving as a beacon in his life's journey.
Jeff's personal interests revolved around an appreciation of simple pleasures. Known for his love of Scheider's pretzels, Nacho cheese dip, ice cream, and pizza, he was also a fan of the Bible, music by Elvis, Aerosmith, and Elton John. Some of his favorite TV Shows were Seinfeld, The Price Is Right, and Impractical Jokers, while he enjoyed watching the Rocky Movies, Lethal Weapon, and Grumpy Old Men on the silver screen.
A sports enthusiast, Jeff was loyal to The Bears and The Blackhawks. He held a fondness for watching Elvis impersonators with Cheryl and cherished memories of seeing Elvis perform with his dad. Jeff took pleasure in the tranquility of nature, often sitting outside enjoying the sunshine or watching birds at his feeder and hanging out with his dog Brinly outside. He also enjoyed having coffee with his sister Carrie, and his friends. He loved spending time with family. He was also committed to his faith, devoting himself to daily Bible devotionals and actively helping improve people's lives in his church community.
Some of Jeff's favorite local spots were Gario's Pizza, Oberweis, Harner's Donuts, McDonald's (for coffee), and Connie's Pizza. He vacationed in Florida where he visited his father, Jerry. When they weren't able to be together, they would have weekly calls to watch hockey games (Grandpa Jerry's team was the Lightning).
Jeff felt strongly about supporting causes related to homeless animals and addiction recovery, using his empathetic and nurturing spirit to make a difference.
Known for his fondness of the color orange, Jeff was described as a blend of crabby and loving, quiet yet thoughtful, but overall, a devout individual. He believed in creating a legacy that spoke of resilience, tranquility, and leading a life of faith. He had a profound impact on those around him, providing lessons on how to find peace amid adversity, and leading his life devotedly following Jesus.
We will hold dear the lessons he shared, and will forever miss his comforting texts, calls, and voice messages. His calming presence and warm hugs will always be missed. As we mourn his passing, we remember Jeff's serenity prayer and aim to cherish his memory by preserving the peace and salvation he so earnestly desired for others.
