Jedaiah (Jed)'s obituary

Jedaiah (Jed) John Sinkler passed away suddenly at the age of 42 on August 2, 2023 in Santa Cruz, California. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, friend and a devoted dog lover. Jed was born in Coer D’alene, Idaho on March 8, 1981 to David Sinkler and Connie Durvin. Jedaiah grew up in Capitola, California and attended Soquel High and Cabrillo College. He moved to Anchorage, Alaska with his sisters and mother in his later teen years where he enjoyed fishing and the beautiful outdoors. He worked in construction and transporting structures for Totem Toters. Jed was know for his kindness and friendly demeanor. He was a gentle soul with a tender and compassionate heart for animals and the underdogs. Jed struggled with trauma and addiction from a young age and his life was full of many struggles, yet he remained connected and committed to his family and close friends. He was always a phone call away, faithfully checking in on his sisters and mother on birthdays, Mother’s Day and showing up for important family events. He loved and was loved by his family greatly. Jedaiah had the dignity of getting clean and sober for the last months of his life after having the privilege of entering a treatment center for the very first time since his struggle with addiction began. He was grinning ear to ear and shared great hopes for his future with his family days before his sudden death. Jed is survived by his father, David Sinkler and his four older sisters and older brother; as well as his three brother-in-laws, five nephews, five nieces, countless friends and beloved dog, Freddie. He has gone on to be reunited with his mother who passed on into eternal embrace in 2017 as well as his nephew who passed in 2021. Their reunion is something in which we find great peace and joy.

A memorial service and lunch will be held at Harvey West Park’s Scout Building in Santa Cruz, California on August 25 at 1 pm.

Our family ask that in lieu of flowers you consider donating to our foundation in honor of Jed to support someone’s journey into sobriety and residential treatment. A GoFundMe has been set up online at: https://gofund.me/5fd64e15
