Jeannot's obituary

Jeannot Carlson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, mercifully passed away on December 6, 2024, after a long battle with dementia. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Cameron, two children, Brian and Katie, daughter-in-law Kelli, son-in-law Jeff, and four grandchildren, Jack, William, Stella and Scotty, six siblings, and hundreds of patients whom she loved and considered as her extended family.

Jeannot was born in Ross, CA, and as a child moved to and was raised in El Paso, TX. She returned to the Bay Area to attend the University of San Francisco, which is where she met Cameron, and got married at the young age of 19. She graduated in 1970 with a BA in Nursing.  As her first job out of college, she worked as a staff nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital in San Francisco.

In 1973, she and Cameron moved to Novato, CA, where she was devoted to raising Brian and Katie. She then went on to work at Novato Community Hospital and with several private practice physicians, eventually working full time for Dr. Lewis Tannenbaum, who encouraged Jeannot to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. So when Cameron started law school, and her kids were in high school, Jeannot returned to school and completed her Master’s Degree in Nursing (Family Nurse Practitioner) at Sonoma State University.

She specialized in women’s health, and over the span of thirty years had the good fortune and privilege of working with Dr. Paul Hohe, Dr. David Galland and Dr. Nona Cunningham.

Life meant for Jeannot to be a nurse. As the oldest of ten children, she became the second matriarch of the Lee family, after her mother passed away in 1998. She often said that by the time she had her own kids, she had already raised a family. She was a bossy but caring oldest sister. She was the firm hand in the velvet glove with her kids, tried to be gentle but direct with her patients, and couldn’t help but be melted butter with her grandkids.

Jeannot was passionate about her work, and always looked forward to seeing her patients. She understood the excitement and trepidation of expectant mothers, the fun and anxiety of raising children, and the immeasurable joy of grandchildren. She had several three-generational family women patients.

As her profession demanded, she was a life-long learner and a voracious reader – consuming a couple of books a week at her peak, in addition to professional literature. For a number of years, she was a healthcare volunteer at the Ritter Center in San Rafael. She relished time with family and friends, loved golf, and even learned to enjoy fly fishing if she could retreat to a comfortable lodge at the end of the day. She will be sorely missed.

Please join us in celebrating Jeannot's life at Noon on Saturday, December 28th at Our Lady of Loretto Parish in Novato, followed by a reception at Marin Country Club in Novato at 1:30pm.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Ritter Center or Aldersly in San Rafael.
