Jean's obituary

Jean Elizabeth Lee was born in a farmhouse in Bradford, Ontario Canada on March 2, 1929 during a snowstorm. Her twin brother John was born a few minutes later and they grew up as the eldest two of a busy farm family with 9 children altogether. Jean trained to be a nurse at Toronto General and then moved to work at a hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. On her first day there,  she met her future husband, Dr. Thomas Moulding.  Jean and Tom were married in March 1954 and together embarked on the adventure of their lives. Tom was called to serve as a doctor in Iran, where they lived for two years, during which time they welcomed a son Christopher. Upon their return to the United States, Jean and Tom welcomed daughters Charlotte in 1957 and Ann in 1961 to complete the family.

Jean and Tom moved regularly during their early years together, living in Ann Arbor MI, a Navajo Indian Reservation near Chinle Arizona, and New Rochelle NY, before settling in Denver, Colorado where they raised their family and lived for 23 years, punctuated by two short stints living in Michigan, before moving to Redondo Beach, CA.

In Colorado, Jean returned to pursue nursing, and also earned her bachelor's degree and R.N. from Colorado Women's College. She embarked on a successful career as a hospice nurse for Denver Hospice and later for almost two decades with Visiting Nurses of Los Angeles Hospice. Jean loved to travel and frequently returned to visit her home in Bradford, as well as traveling the world with her husband and family.

Jean was confident and outspoken, and is remembered by friends and family for many acts of kindness and support.  She was an outstanding hostess at large backyard parties for Tom's colleagues in Denver, but her master skill was in  organizing large gatherings for family and friends to share ski vacations in the Colorado mountains.  Jean was an excellent cook and was known for her specialty dishes like paella, Persian shish kebab, and champagne-creamed shrimp.  Every year she would make "tipsy" fruit cakes and Christmas puddings for gifts, which family, friends and neighbors eagerly looked forward to receiving during the holidays.

Tom died on December 24, 2013, and shortly thereafter Jean moved to Royal Oaks Manor in Bradbury, CA, where she lived for nearly 10 years.

At age 95 on March 2, Jean shared her last birthday with her three children and 5 grandchildren with a wonderful party held in her honor.  In her last week, all of her children visited and during her final hours Jean was surrounded with three grandchildren, son, and daughter-in-law.  Jean  died in her sleep in Bradbury, CA on August 19, 2024.

She is survived by her 3 children, Christopher (Cathy), Charlotte DeChant (Doug), Ann Moulding, 6 grandchildren,  4 great-grandchildren and 5 siblings.
