Jean's obituary

In Loving Memory of Jean Louis Leger (Lou)

Lou Leger, of Roseville, CA, passed on to be with the Lord on February 28, 2021 at Sutter Hospital after a five year battle with kidney and congestive heart failure. He was 85 years old. Lou was born on October 25, 1935 in Chisolm, Maine to Albany and Magdeleine. Lou was the fifth child of ten children, including three sisters and six brothers. Lou was raised in a Catholic family, he served as an altar boy and loved the Lord.

Lou and Patty have been married for sixty and a half years. Together they have three children, Donald, Sharon and Elaine; seven grandchildren, Amber, Alyssa, Amber, Scott, Lori, Christopher, Hayden and one great grandson, Greyson.

Lou has always had a strong work ethic and love for his country. When Lou was a freshman in high school he got a job at a paper mill. Working one job and going to school was not enough, so he took on a second job at the Bass shoe factory. When Lou was a junior in high school he joined the Army reserves at 17. After three years in the army reserves, he enlisted in the Air Force. Lou served a year in Vietnam. His Air Force career took him around the world to the Philippians, Thailand, Korea and parts of Southeast Asia.

Retired from the Air Force in 1976, he worked as an aircraft maintenance tech and crew chief for over twenty years. After his career with the Air Force, he continued supporting his family through attending college courses, managing Roller King in Roseville, working at Placer Savings and Loan and Safe Credit Union (30 years in the banking industry).

When Lou finally retired, at the age of 74, he was able to pursue his childhood passion of playing the harmonica. Patty discovered the Harmonicoots (a Sun City band) and Lou quickly became a “Coot”. They also discovered a group called, All Tuned Up, and Lou quickly joined. He was so excited that he decided to share his passion with the youth in our community and began volunteering at Kaseberg Elementary School. Lou would always say, “Children are the future of harmonica playing”.

Lou loved, more than anything, his family! He really loved children. He looked forward to our family reunions (every two years) since 1990! He loved watching his children perform in roller skating competitions and his grandchildren perform in dance, cheer, gymnastics, band, and choir events. Road trips and Disneyland/Disneyworld are family favorite adventures! Many memories made at Disney will live on forever.

These last five years were a challenge for Lou. No matter what health issue came his way he always said, “I’m just fine”.
He will live in our hearts forever.
