Jean's obituary

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Jean Marie Di Virgilio, a beloved mother, grandmother, and sister. Jean was born on the 3rd of February 1947 and left us too soon on the 30th of June, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love and family loyalty.

Surviving Jean are her daughter and son-in-law, Rheanna and Lucas Montoya, her grandsons, Jacob and Joseph Bernhardt, and her granddaughters, Ella and Nina Montoya. Also, sisters Karolynn Potter and Patsy Cranston, and  brother and sister-in-law, Robert & Elizabeth Di Virgilio. Also, Great-grandchildren, Landon Bernhardt, and Aubrey & Jacob Bernhardt. Goddaughter and niece Dena Gingerelli and many nieces and nephews including John Tarigo, Tina & Pat Rabe, and Gina, Lisa and Lana Tarigo, Gino & Shirley Gingerelli, & Forrest & Mario DiVirgilio.  Also, many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Jean has been met in peaceful rest by her predeceased daughter, Julianne Di Virgilio, her sister and brother-in-law Marlene and Stephen Tarigo, her brother-in-law, Kenneth Potter, and nephew Larry Robinson.

Jean was born in Seattle, WA in 1947 while her father was stationed there in the Navy. She grew up a military brat and ultimately ended up settling with her folks in Santa Clara, CA near the Moffett Field base in Mountain View, CA where they made their life a home.

Jean was best known for her fun loving tenacity, sweet nature, and bubbly sense of humor. She loved the simple things in life as long as everyone around her was happy; she enjoyed cooking with family, making gifts for everyone, CHRISTMAS, and enjoyed homemade pastries, Nonna’s Italian cookies and making her own homemade fudge and Kahlua.  She started her days with lots of coffee and ended them with watching her favorite shows like Dr. Pol, HGTV, and Forensic Files. She loved her family most of all and dedicated her life to caring for them first and foremost before herself. She had many funny nicknames including Jinxy Jeanie and Jeanie Bo Beanie. Her sister Karolynn called her Buttercup and she called Karolynn Lollipop.

She was an avid fan of music… The Eagles, Grateful Dead, Alan Jackson, Dwight Yokum, Audioslave, Linda Rondstadt, The Doors, and Van Morrison. She supported her favorite sports teams, The St. Louis Cardinals and The Pittsburgh Steelers. Jean's favorite hobbies included reading, solving jigsaw and crossword puzzles (she was soooo good), playing card games and slot machines, sewing (making costumes, clothing for us all, and doll clothing), antiquing, and curating a beautiful and quite large collection of antique trinkets. Her favorites included classic LPs and 45s of her favorite artists and music memorabilia, vintage perfume bottles, dolls, ceramics, crocheting. Half Moon Bay was her preferred vacation spot, where she enjoyed both the journey, the antique shopping and the beautiful coastline.

Jean had a heart that bled for the voiceless animals, supporting causes such as the ASPCA. Her favorite colors, teal and purple, were a reflection of her vibrant personality. Her birthstone is Amethyst, which is a symbol of healing and spiritual awareness. She cherished spending quality time with her loved ones, showing them loyalty and love.  This remains the best lesson she shared with the world as she had nothing but love for everyone she met. In fact, many called her “mom”. She will forever be loved and missed by many people.
