How you can help
Dear family,
We are reaching out to share updates and ask for support after a recent family tragedy. Our beautiful nephew Jay (12 years old) passed away on November 13th at Robert Wood Johnson hospital. He went to the (first) hospital with pain in his chest on Oct 19. They determined he had pneumonia and fluid in his lungs; he was then transferred to a second hospital. The second hospital found a mass on his lung after a CAT scan after which he was transferred to the last hospital (Robert Wood). Jay was scheduled for surgery to remove this mass but they were only able to remove a piece of the mass for a biopsy (which later came back non-malignant). After this procedure, he was heavily sedated and had a breathing tube installed on Nov 1. Unfortunately, this was the beginning of the nightmare. The breathing tube malfunctioned (due to either improper placement or improper monitoring) leading to Jay going into cardiac arrest and lacking oxygen for 9 minutes. He later experienced a second cardiac episode, leading to 45 minutes of CPR and defibrillator use to bring him back. We then spent days in wait, fearing that Jay had experienced significant brain damage due to these two cardiac episodes. After weeks of this nightmare and having Jay on life support, he could not recover. The hospital has failed to properly account for this tragedy. This should have never happened.
We are reaching out to ask the family if they can send some support for Amanda (Jay’s mommy) as she processes this unthinkable loss (and has to deal with the fallout of this nightmare with hospital bills, funeral arrangements, etc). Thank you all for taking the time to read these updates and donate if you can. This is an incredibly sensitive situation and we would appreciate respecting Amanda’s privacy at this time. We have created this private, family fund on her behalf so please only share with other members of our family. Contribute
