Dan's obituary

Jay Daniel “Dan” LeDuc, 70, of Nampa, Idaho, passed away on April 15, 2026. As a man who was always financially minded and harbored a lifelong distaste for taxes, he would have found his departure on Tax Day to be both humorous and perfectly timed.

Born in Las Vegas, Nevada, on June 8, 1955, to Richard Wallace and Daryl Canfield, Dan was the second of five children. His siblings—two sisters and two brothers—remained his anchors throughout his life. Charlie, Jim, Nancy and Jan were the solid foundation of friendship that Dan built his whole life upon. They are truly his best friends. Growing up, Dan was rarely found indoors. Whether he was hunting on his grandparents’ farm in Marsing or casting a line into any patch of water he could find, the outdoors were his true home.

He carried that spirit to Boise High School where he played football and spent his lunch breaks and weekends hunting the fields near school with friends—a pastime that formed bonds lasting a lifetime.

Following his graduation from high school, Dan served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the New England States Mission. He spoke often and fondly of his time in Boston, particularly the contrast of teaching the gospel in the intellectual and cultural hubs in Cambridge during the late 1970’s. The friendships he forged in New England remained a cherished part of his story until his final day.

On June 22, 1977, Dan married the love of his life, Deborah Faye Anderson, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Together, they built a life centered on Jesus Christ, hard work, and devotion. After Dan graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Communications in 1981, his early career took the family to the oil fields of Roosevelt, Utah, before they ultimately settled in Nampa, Idaho to raise their three children.

Dan dedicated 30 years to Micron Technologies in Boise, Idaho as a Facilities Manager. He was a man of quiet sacrifice, working tirelessly to ensure his family had every opportunity to succeed in life.

If Dan wasn't at work or the church, he was in his fishing waders. Most weekends found him at Hells Canyon Dam, Clearwater or on the Little Salmon. Fishing was his sanctuary, and his fishing buddies were his brothers-in-arms. As the years passed, his devotion to the sport never wavered, though his family and friends noted that his stories seemed to grow an inch or two longer every time he retold them.

While Richard, Sara, and Aaron were the pride of Dan’s life, they were eventually demoted with the arrival of nine incredible grandchildren. Being "Papa" was the role Dan lived for. After retiring, he and Debbie moved to Texas to be near Sara, then Dan moved first to Layton, Utah, to be near Richard, before finally returning to his beloved hometown of Nampa. Every child and grandchild felt the weight of his unconditional love and the joy of his unique, individual relationships with them.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was the heartbeat of Dan’s life. He mastered the art of bringing joy to others through laughter and genuine kindness. He was famous for his "self-imposed" assigned seating. From now on, every short, right-back-row bench, in Nampa will feel a little more empty without him.

Dan was the pinnacle of a true friend, a genuine disciple of Jesus Christ who loved without conditions. His personality filled every room, and his stories created laughter and memories that will last forever.

Dan is survived by his three children: Richard (Rebecca) LeDuc of Layton, UT; Sara (Eric) Hoskins of McKinney, TX; and Aaron LeDuc of Nampa, ID. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren, whom he loved eternally: Andrew, Rigdon, Parker, Halli, Maxwell, Zya, Lilie, Piper, and Isaac.

In our hearts, Dan truly has just “gone fishing”. We will think of him often, especially when the Steelhead are making their run up the Little Salmon River each year.

Funeral Services will be held, Wednesday April 22nd, 2026 at 2212 E. Amity Avenue, Nampa Idaho under the direction of Bishop Van Halder of the Nampa 15th Ward. A viewing will be held before the funeral from 10:00 AM - 10:45 AM..

Dan will be interred in the Kohlerlawns cemetery in Nampa, Idaho.
