Jaunis's obituary

**Celebrating the Life of Jaunis Quashie-Yeates**

Jaunis Quashie-Yeates, affectionately known to some as Grandma, passed away on August 7, 2025, at the age of 77. Jaunis was born on January 14, 1948, in Mt. St. George, Tobago, to parents Jane and Lewis Quashie.

After leaving school, Jaunis moved to the twin island of Trinidad to train as a chef at the Trinidad and Tobago Hospitality and Tourism where she excelled and received multiple awards. She later earned a reputation as a well-known caterer, catering for various types of events. For over thirty years, she faithfully served as the food and beverage supervisor at Kendal Farm School in Tobago, a program dedicated to teaching young people about agriculture. She also worked in a school feeding program that provided food to school children.

Forty years ago, she moved to the United States, and initially lived in Washington, D.C., before moving to Baltimore over twenty years ago. Once in the United States, Jaunis worked in housekeeping and healthcare, two fields that were new to her, but she excelled in both. While living in Washington D.C, under the leadership of the Mutual Baptist Association, she studied and became a minister, continuing in her father’s footsteps.

Jaunis's love for her family and her faith were the cornerstones of her life. Her inspirational messages, sent each morning and evening, were a testament to her unwavering faith. She treasured her weekly calls with her brother, Junior, and her sisters, Jacqueline and Joy, finding joy in those moments of connection. A long-time member of the Miracle Center in Capitol Heights, MD, she remained connected to her church family, regularly joining Bible study and church services with them via Zoom.

Jaunis leaves behind her children, Wendy and Nesta; her grandchildren Keon, Careem (Star), Cadeem, Cadijah (Benjamin), Danielle, and James; her great-grandchild, Maya; her siblings; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her only son, Wayne; parents Jane and Lewis; sisters Cynthia and Lynette; brothers Joseph and David; and her niece Mary-Ann.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Jaunis by contributing to the education fund of her cherished only great-grandchild—a lasting legacy of her love. Contributions may be made through the memorial website or via Venmo/Zelle to Cadijah Walcott. We are deeply grateful for the love and support we have received from our community during this difficult time. Rest easy, Grandma—your spirit will always guide us.
