Jason's obituary
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Jason Eric Whalen, who was born on June 17, 1976, and passed away on May 26, 2023.
Jason was known for his kind heart & giving nature. He had a love of food - pizza was always his go-to. He loved white chocolate chip cookies, fajitas, and anything slathered in cheese. His taste in music was diverse, including artists like Chris Cornell, Tupac, Machine Gun Kelly, and Taylor Swift. TV shows that Jason loved ranged from Seal Team 6 and Cosmos: Neal deGrasse Tyson to Workaholics. Some of his favorite movies were Into the Wild, Gladiator, and Hot Rod, among many others. He always knew the good movies to watch and could consistently find the best shows on TV.
As a sports enthusiast, Jason loved the Oregon Ducks and the Minnesota Vikings. He enjoyed activities like fishing, hiking, and exploring nature. Jason had a love of building things with his hands. He found enjoyment in art and creating, and loved working in the garden. He was always very proud of all he had done in/around our home. Jason loved being at the beach; it was when his mind found calm & stillness. Local spots he held dear were Blue Lake, Sparks Lake, and the Oregon Coast. He loved being anywhere he could be immersed in nature.
Those who knew Jason would describe him as funny, caring, generous, hardworking, and creative. He taught himself how to weld and built custom live-edge furniture. His artistic touch can be seen in a sculpture at the Prineville Hospital and benches at the High Desert Museum in the Otter exhibit.
Jason was a lover of animals, and they have always held a special place in his heart. He loved adventuring with our Catahoula, Kona until her passing in March 2021. He was a proud Frenchie Dad, and often wore his custom t-shirt sporting their adorable faces. He dedicated every spare moment to giving them the best life possible, and Frenchie playgroup was one of his favorite activities.
Jason was passionate about supporting veterans and their needs, and in lieu of flowers, funds are being raised for the Central Oregon Veterans Ranch at https://everloved.com/life-of….
Jason will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit will live on in the memories and hearts of his friends and family.
