Jasmine Michelle Lam (林靜康), beloved daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin, and friend passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 7, 2025 at a supportive living house near her family’s home in Los Angeles. She was 20 years old.

Jasmine was born in Los Angeles, CA on October 19, 2004 to loving parents Trinh and Sheri Lam. She attended Broadway Elementary School’s Mandarin Immersion Program in Venice, CA, from kindergarten through fifth grade. For middle school and high school, Jasmine attended Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies (LACES), graduating in 2023 with academic designations of “Valedictorian” and “AP Scholar.”

A dedicated English horse-riding student for many years, Jasmine always looked forward to the next higher jump. She volunteered several summers at Mill Creek Equestrian Center with Horses in the Hood (HHLA), helping younger students from low-income communities learn to care for and ride horses. Jasmine played club volleyball and served as the setter on the LACES Varsity Girls’ Volleyball team from her freshman through junior year. During the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown, Jasmine pursued music—dabbling in guitar, drums, and songwriting. She completed a UCLA Extension music production course and played drums with the LACES Jazz Ensemble her senior year of high school.

In the fall of 2023, Jasmine moved into Cowell College at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) to begin her pre-psychology-major studies as a proud “banana slug.” Jasmine competed with the UCSC equestrian team, placing first in her riding class during competition at Stanford University. In addition to horses, Jasmine loved spending time with good friends, listening to great music, “thrifting” for cool clothes, chilling with her cats, drinking matcha lattes, and creating custom manicure designs.

One of Jasmine’s final offerings to this world is her original song, “I Want To Survive,” written and recorded during the summer of 2025 at a mental health treatment program in Florida. The mental health obstacles Jasmine faced in this life persisted to the end in spite of (and alongside) her numerous strengths, many friendships, and the enduring love, support, and advocacy of her parents. Jasmine’s family and loved ones miss her dearly—holding onto the hope that Jasmine finally rides, dances, sings, plays, and laughs… FREE.

Jasmine is survived by parents Trinh and Sheri Lam; nǎinai (grandmother) Lecam Lam; grandfather David West; aunts and uncles Jeff & Debra Reimer, Long & Angela Lam, Kieu & Christopher Proud, Hiphung Lam, and David & Stephanie Lam. Jasmine is also survived by cousins Thaddeus, Tabitha, & Aaron Reimer along with Nathan, Alex, Madeline, Alison, Cali, & Noah Lam. A memorial service will be held for Jasmine on October 11, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Manhattan Beach Community Church, 303 S. Peck Ave., Manhattan Beach, CA 90266.
