Jarrett's obituary
Jarrett Anthony Sermeno 6/15/1989 - 7/19/2023
Jarrett, or as his friends knew him, Jae, was genuinely kind, always willing to help others, had a happy personality that was magnetic in nature, and loved his family. He was his own worst enemy at times, and was difficult to convince in an argument. No matter, we loved him, and many others did as well.
He came to Antioch when he was 4 years old, and after he started school, he played baseball, and basketball. His 8th grade basketball team went 10-0. He enjoyed modeling clay, crafting his pieces in great detail. His teachers noticed his artistic ability, and encouraged him to continue making art. In middle school and high school he had art pieces on display at the county fair and The Lesher Center Art Museum.
His artistic ability was his foremost sense of pride. He started airbrushing t-shirts, and painting murals around the area (mostly at local restaurants) as a teenager. Car murals were also part of his repertoire. He donated one of his paintings to the Chuck Jones Museum Fundraiser that had a painting of Bugs Bunny washing Chuck Jones' car. It was sold at auction. Later he moved to tattoo art, apprenticing with a local, established artist. He honed his craft on his friends, and his own body. He honored our wish to refrain from tattooing his neck or face. (No offense to those with face or neck art).
He started a tattoo business from his home, and also did house call appointments. He would tell us how he gave people a way to heal or find joy through their tattoos. He loved showing us the photos of the tattoos he completed after each appointment. He said, “Mom, I change lives.”
In addition to his art career, he apprenticed in iron working, repossessed automobiles, and worked occasionally in the construction field. He enjoyed painting things, and taking stuff apart and putting it back together. He helped a lot around our home, and on the other hand we would always know when he had been in a room because it looked like the Tasmanian Devil ran through it. He struggled with ADHD since he was a child, and the disease of substance abuse as an adult. Like so many others, he thought he was invincible and never wanted to burden people with his troubles. It was due to these struggles that Jarrett left us at just 34 years old.
He never married, nor had children, however he had his beloved French Bulldog, Boris. The two of them were inseparable.
Jarrett is survived by his parents Guadalupe Sermeno (Susan Sermeno), his brother Adrian Sermeno (Brittany Sermeno, and daughter Reyna Sermeno), and French Bulldog, Boris.
His family and friends will miss him dearly.
