Janie's obituary

Janie “San Juanita” Thompson was born on January 31, 1941 in Odem, Texas. She graduated from Odem High School where she played basketball for the Odem Owls. She loved her hometown and had many life-long friends and family there who she always enjoyed visiting. When Janie was 18, she moved to Dallas where she worked as a model for Neiman Marcus and Sanger-Harris.

In Dallas, Janie met Bobby Thompson. They had both moved there for work, lived on the same street, and met on the bus commuting to their places of employment. They wed on September 8, 1962 in Odem, Texas, and enjoyed 52 years of blissful marriage.

Janie enjoyed working in customer service for 40 years. She was employed by the Dallas company Offset Plate Graining that was ultimately purchased by Fuji Ink. She was often named Employee of the Month. Reflecting her love of her adopted city, she was an ardent fan of the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Texas Stars.

Janie had a wonderful joy about her and a positive spirit. Her faith in God was strong and she loved her church families from both the Central Church of the Nazarene and the North Dallas Church of the Nazarene. Janie deeply believed in the power of prayer. She tried to console others by letting them know she was praying for them. She will always be remembered by those of us who loved her so very much.

Janie is survived by her children Brad Thompson and Darla Thompson and her brothers Fernando “Fred” Rocha Jr. and Andres “Andy” Rocha as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bobby Thompson, her father, Fernando Rocha, Sr., her mother, Dominga Gonzalez-Bocanegra, her brothers David Rocha and Ranuel “Pelon” Bocanegra Jr., and her sisters Jovita “Jo” Thomas and Ybinia “Bennie” Bocanegra.

There will be a Celebration of Life at the North Dallas Church of the Nazarene located at 10303 Webb Chapel Road, Dallas, TX 75229 on Saturday, October 7th at 11:00 am.

Flowers can be delivered to the North Dallas Church of the Nazarene between the hours of 9:00 and 10:30 am on October 7th.
