Janie's obituary
Janie Simmang, born February 28, 1953 in San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025 at 7:30 a.m. She was 72 years old. During her final month, she was gently cared for by her daughter Christie and surrounded by her grandchildren, all of whom brought comfort, love, and reassurance during her last days.
Janie lived her life with a spirit that was both lighthearted and deeply generous. People often noticed her humor first, because she had a way of making others laugh even on difficult days. She also had a rare gentleness that extended to every living thing. Animals seemed to sense her kindness immediately.
She enjoyed simple comforts. She loved watching familiar shows like Gunsmoke and Little House on the Prairie. She also loved gardening. Gardening brought her peace, and she had an incredible ability to revive plants that others thought could not be saved. Even when her health made it harder for her to tend to her plants in later years, the joy she found in gardening never left her.
Her faith guided her through every chapter of her life. Janie was a devoted Christian who lived her values in quiet and consistent ways. She was honest, hardworking, and always willing to give more of herself than anyone expected. She brightened the lives of others with her laughter, her stories, and her steady presence. Her kindness remains one of the strongest memories her family carries.
Janie is survived by her daughters, Cherie Buskirk of Cameron Park, California, and Christie Burks of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Amanda, whom she loved as family and held close to her heart. Janie is survived as well by her brother, Wayman Simmang Jr. of Canyon Lake, Texas, and by her grandchildren Bryan, Adrienne, Victoria, Maddie, and Gideon. She is also survived by her niece Mandy, whom she loved very much. Each of them will hold her memory close and continue to feel the influence of her gentle way of moving through the world.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Betty Simmang and Wayman Simmang Sr., as well as her sister Susan. Janie often spoke about her past pets with deep affection, and she would say that she looked forward to seeing them again when she reached Heaven. Her family takes comfort in believing that she is reunited with many of the animals she cherished throughout her life.
In keeping with her wishes, no services will be held. Arrangements have been made for cremation.
Janie will be remembered for her warmth, her faith, and the way she could brighten a day simply by being herself. Her family and friends will continue to feel her love in the laughter she shared and the kindness she lived by each day.
