Jan's obituary

It is with heavy hearts to announce that Janice “Jan” Arlene Whipple LaCivita, born on November 20th, 1936, was laid to rest in the early morning of Thursday, June 16th, 2022 at the age of 85 years old in Mount Gilead, Ohio. The daughter of Gladys and Ralph Whipple and the sister to Alice “Cis” Whipple Suhy was born in Freedom, Pennsylvania. In Jan’s early life, she attended Hubbard High School and met her highschool sweetheart, Joseph LaCivita Jr., or as she liked to call him, “Sonny”. The couple married on January 28th, 1956 and spent a loving 66 years together. Jan was a proud mother of three daughters: Christina (Chris) Rizor, Diane Garverick, and Lori Ellis. Jan supported her husband's career accomplishments every step of the way and took pride in being a mother that would devote her time to helping her daughters become the brave, resilient women they are today. Throughout her lifetime, Jan lived in many different places. Some of the places she resided included: Hubbard, Ohio; Galion, Ohio; Delaware, Ohio; Maryland; Virginia; Florida; and Candlewood Lake in Mount Gilead, Ohio. Anyone that knew Jan, knew that she enjoyed traveling. Janice was a loving, caring, and heartwarming mother, grandmother and wife. When visiting Jan, you were greeted with a smile and hugs and she made sure it was always a fun time. Jan had a great sense of humor, and a playful personality that really showed when she visited casinos and played slot machines, which she loved to do with her husband; her sister, Cis; and her brother-in-law, John. At her home in Candlewood Lake, she enjoyed nightly pontoon boat rides with her family and dogs, homemaking, and keeping up with the news. Jan enjoyed having family and friends over to the house for family cookouts, swims in the lake, and competitive rounds of card games such as “Uno”, where she was determined to win. Keeping her family happy and making them feel loved was her true joy in life and she took pride in seeing accomplishments of her daughters and grandchildren. Although we grieve her passing, we will forever feel her in our hearts, cheering us on and supporting us throughout our journey of life.

Jan is predeceased by her parents Ralph and Gladys Whipple, and sister, Alice (Cis) Whipple Suhy. Janice will be missed by her husband, Joseph LaCivita Jr.; her daughters: Christina (Jim) Rizor, Diane (Dave) Garverick, and Lori (Bob) Ellis; her grandchildren: Ryan, Krista, Amanda, Jamie, Ashley, and Hunter and her great-grandchildren: Max, Evan, and Colin. While Jan’s family grieves her loss, they will forever remember her as the loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and wife that she was.

The burial will take place on June 21, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Shauck Cemetery, located at W Point-Belville Road (County Road 29) and US 42 Shauck, Morrow County, Ohio 44904.
