Janice's obituary

In Loving Memory of Janice Seino

Aristotle famously claimed that “a friend to all is a friend to none,” suggesting such bonds must be shallow. Janice spent her entire life proving him wrong. She didn’t just meet people; she saw them, helped them, and loved them, building a global tapestry of deep, meaningful connections that spanned oceans and decades.

Born in Seattle and raised by loving parents, Janice was the eldest of three siblings. Though life often took them to different corners of the world, the bond between them remained strong. After graduating from Mercer Island High School and the University of Washington, Janice followed her adventurous spirit abroad.

She didn't just visit places; she lived them. Whether putting down roots in Tibet, Nepal, or Japan, Janice threw herself into the heart of every culture she encountered. In Japan, she mastered the arts of painting and pottery, married, and welcomed her greatest joy, her daughter, Lena.

When Janice eventually returned to the U.S., she poured that same creative energy into her community. She raised Lena with an open heart, taught at local schools, and continued to inspire others through her art. Even as she balanced her career and her own creative pursuits, she remained a devoted daughter, tenderly watching over her aging mother, Revella.

A true artist in every sense, Janice saw beauty where others saw the mundane. She was a catalyst for bravery, constantly inspiring those around her to take risks, seek adventure, and embrace their own creativity.

While she wore many titles, the one she wore with the most grace was Friend. Her circle was a beautiful, eclectic mosaic of cherished high school classmates, extended family, expats from Japan, spiritual connections from Tibet and India, book clubs, and fellow teachers. To all of them, she was a sanctuary. And no, Aristotle—these were not shallow relationships; they were the deep, enduring anchors of a life well-lived.

Janice’s legacy of love continues through her daughter Lena and son-in-law Jake; her adored grandchildren, Kai and Nora; her sister Laurel, brother Edward, a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who became family.

Janice faced her illness with courage, grace, and deep gratitude for the life she was given. After her treatment had concluded and it seemed she had overcome so much, her sudden passing has left those who loved her deeply saddened.

A celebration of Janice’s life will be held on May 3, 2026, in the Seattle area. For further details, please reach out to Lena with your name, phone number, and email address at: lenasaskari@gmail.com
