Janice Richey, age 77, passed away on Monday March 16, 2026. A longtime resident of Corpus Christi, TX, she graduated from Mary Carroll High school and pursued a career in nursing, receiving her BSN from Texas Woman's University in Denton and her MBA from Corpus Christi State University (CCSU). She was the Head Nurse in the Burn Unit at Memorial Hospital and later worked for the Southwest Transplant Alliance and Christus Spohn Hospital. Her favorite board game as a child was Monopoly and she would always win when she played with her sisters. In the early 1970's, while driving her son to school she drove by a house with a for sale sign in front of it and eventually decided to buy it. She then began playing Monopoly in real life and slowly built a real estate empire totaling 88 units (her goal was to get to 100 units). She owned a beach condo in Port Aransas and loved spending time there with her girlfriends. Janice traveled extensively with her family and girlfriends and would often take trips to New York City to see shows on Broadway (two per day, both matinee and evening shows). She also liked thrift store shopping and would spend hours on end at the Dirt Cheap when she went to visit her mother in Mississippi. She very much enjoyed a standing Tuesday date night with her granddaughter for a movie and tacos. She is preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Walline Vogle. She is survived by her son, Sean Smith; granddaughter Kamrin Smith: sisters, Sheryll Wright of Reno, NV; Patricia Casey; and Susan Vogle of Albuquerque, NM. Janice was a cancer survivor. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Cancer Society. Per Janice's request, the family will have a celebration of life at Skipper's Hideaway at 390 NAS Dr. on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 4:00pm.
