Janice's obituary

Janice Marie McGhen (Layton), affectionately known as General Jan, passed away on July 22, 2024, in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, at the age of 75. Born on November 13, 1948, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, Jan was a beloved figure in her community and family, known for her magical presence and deep, unconditional love.

Jan's life was marked by her remarkable ability to create joy and wonder for those around her. Her intuitive nature and silent expressions of love were a cornerstone of her existence. She was a fierce protector and supporter of her family, investing her all into the lives of her sons and their children. Jan's grandchildren and great-granddaughters were the light of her life, and she never hesitated to go above and beyond to make their world a little brighter.

An avid player of Chinese checkers and a lover of crafts, Jan had a knack for turning the ordinary into something extraordinary, crafting beautiful moments and memories that her family will treasure forever. Her home was a hub of creativity and warmth, where laughter, love, and the occasional sound of sleep talking filled the air.

Jan is survived by her loving sons, David McGhen Sr, Timmy and Betsy McGhen, and Rusty and Shawnanne McGhen; her brother, Wayne Layton; her grandchildren, Kirsten Plympton and her husband Robert Plympton, David McGhen, Lauren McGhen, Noble McClure, Stephen McGhen, Shane McGhen, Devon McGhen, and Isabella McGhen; and her great-granddaughters, Juliana and Emilia Santos. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Selma Layton; her husband, Daniel (Danny) McGhen; and her sisters, Joyce and Michelle.

Jan's legacy of love and enchantment will live on through the stories shared by those who knew her best. Her family and friends will continue to celebrate her life, remembering a woman who was not only the heart and soul of her family but also a true maker of magic.
