Janice “Jan” Marie Hummer passed away on March 19, 2021 at the age of 82 in her hometown of Indianapolis, IN. Her battle with serious medical issues in recent years truly showed her courage in facing life challenges with strength and grace. Despite her struggles she never played the victim and tackled her issues head on without complaint until the end.
Jan was born on June 13, 1938 to Marjorie Mae Truax and Eugene Almarine Truax. She was their eldest daughter.
Jan attended Ben Davis High School and graduated in 1956.
In 1961 Jan married the love of her life, Herbert Howard Hummer on February 18th. They met at a local YMCA dance and the rest was history. They had two daughters, Michele Marie Hummer-Smith (Weddington, NC) and Monica Mae Hummer-Budreau (Rosemount, MN).
Jan loved being a mother and spent much of her time volunteering at her childrens school and extracurricular activities. She worked many bake sales and volunteered for every event. She was a Bluebird and Campfire Girl leader and she happily even coached girls softball even though she knew little about sports. Nothing stopped her from making a difference.
The only thing that exceeded her love of spending time with her husband and daughters was her absolute love of her 4 grandchildren. They were the apple of her eye and she would do anything for them. Even though she lived in a different state she was at every baseball game, figure-skating competition, choral and band concert. Anything her grandkids were involved in she took an active roll as their #1 Fan!
Jan is survived by her loving husband Herb of 60 years. Her daughter Michele Hummer-Smith (Scott), daughter Monica Hummer-Budreau (Brian) and her beloved grandchildren Morgan Budreau, Drake Smith, Mitchell Budreau, and Kendall Smith.
Per Jan’s wishes she was cremated and a private celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
