Janice's obituary

Janice Rae McGee Christensen Helmick passed away peacefully at her home in American Fork, Utah on October 1, 2025, after a short fight with breast cancer. Janice was born to Kenneth Lemar McGee and Donna Mae Walker on September 7, 1946, in Farmington, New Mexico, where she was also raised. Janice married Reid Lee Christensen on June 23, 1964, in Mesa, Arizona. Janice and Reid had 6 children and raised them in San Jose, California and Orem, Utah. Janice and Reid later divorced in 1996. Janice married Edward Frank Helmick on May 25, 2007 in Orem, Utah.

After raising her children, Janice attended Utah Valley University and earned an Associate of Science degree in Office Administration. Janice was working as an Office Manager for the Utah Board of Regents in Salt Lake City when she retired. Janice loved her work and had several hobbies in which she excelled, including sewing, quilting, needle arts, ceramics, baking, canning, cooking, gardening, playing piano, and genealogical research. She was a voracious reader, especially of historical books, and maintained a large library. In her retirement years, Janice and her late husband, Ed, enjoyed camping and 4-wheeling in their yellow Jeep named “Absolutely.” They enjoyed being with their friends in their Jeep group. Together, Janice and Ed regularly visited and camped in 9-Mile Canyon in central Utah while they researched and authored a book about the ancient pictographs and petroglyphs, settlements, and people.

Janice was a devout and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where her favorite calling was Gospel Doctrine Teacher. She also loved singing praise to God in the choir.

Janice leaves a beautiful legacy behind. She is survived by her 6 children, Darin (Alicia) Christensen, Myron (Allison) Christensen, Valori Christensen, Tamara Evans, Gary (Lisa) Christensen, and Janili Blaylock and 2 stepdaughters, Mynell (Brian) Harper, and Jenn Helmick; 24 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; and brothers Don (Debbie) McGee, Gordon (Barbara) McGee and Rick (Suzanne) McGee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Helmick, parents, sister Beverly and brother Lemar, and two sons-in-law, Monty Evans and Ben Blaylock.

The family would like to thank the medical professionals at the cancer center at American Fork Hospital and the compassionate hospice workers of Symbii.
