Janice's obituary
Janice Hales Hanamura, 66, of Pleasanton, California passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026. Janice was born to Robert Lynn Hales and Jean Hales in Denver, Colorado on March 10, 1959. She was the third of four children born in the Hales family. She moved to Crystal Lake, Illinois for eight years and then moved to Pleasanton where she attended Harvest Park Middle School and Amador Valley High School. Much of her childhood and young adult years were spent traveling to 49 of the 50 United States and across Europe with her family (she did end up making it to Alaska in 2008 which completed her seeing all 50 states). She graduated from St. Mary’s College with her Associates Degree in Nursing. She worked in a few different hospitals in the Bay Area, but eventually spent 36 years of her nursing career at Stanford TriValley here in Pleasanton. She had her RN, CCRN, and CPAN nursing credentials. She loved those she cared for and those she cared for loved her. She often told jokes to her patients to relieve their stress and her kindness lit up every room she entered.
Janice ran at least four half marathons and taught cardio kickboxing for many years. She was very active in her church community and served in it throughout her whole life with a highlight being her seven years as a seminary teacher to high school students.
She is survived by her husband and best friend, Tyler Hanamura. They met at Tyler's karate school in 1982. Their first date was on October 13th, 1983 which ended up being the luckiest day as it was the start of their eternal love story. They were married in 1989. Their adventures included fishing, hiking, camping, dancing, game playing, and raising their three daughters.
Her daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She passionately supported them in all they did. She will forever be described as everyone’s ultimate cheerleader. She is survived by her husband Tyler and her children: Christine (Austin), Emily (Jake), Amy (Ryan), and six grandchildren.
Janice leaves behind a legacy of unwavering faith, infectious joy, endless kindness, and steadfast loyalty. Since her initial lung cancer diagnosis in early 2021, Janice fought and did everything she could to enjoy the most time on Earth with her family. Until we meet again, we treasure God's gift of eternal families.
A celebration of her life will take place on March 13th at 11:00am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 6100 Paseo Santa Cruz, Pleasanton, CA 94566.
