Janice's obituary

Janice Kaye Franklin McDaniel, age 77, entered into God’s glory on April 12, 2026.

Janice was born on August 11, 1948, in Alex, Oklahoma, to Theodore Frances “T.F.” Franklin and Odessa Mae (Anglin) Franklin Gavit.

Janice met the love of her life, Nolan McDaniel, and together they shared 31 years of marriage filled with devotion, laughter, and adventure. embracing every adventure—whether dune buggy riding in Little Sahara, speedboat racing, or long days skiing on Keystone Lake. That love of life and fearless spirit never left her.

When Nolan began his fishing career, Janice was right beside him—entertaining, hosting, and creating lasting memories with countless “fish friends” at the lodge on Whitney Mountain.

A true pioneer for women long before her time, Janice built an impressive professional career. She was an executive in the Oil, Land & Title industry, working with Williams and many other companies. She was also a realtor and a fierce advocate for women’s rights. Janice was never afraid to let you know where she stood—especially when it came to her politics and her beliefs.

One of Janice’s greatest joys was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Countless hours were spent cruising the neighborhood on scooters, teaching embroidery—one of her favorite crafts—and making special handmade gifts. Time at the lake was especially treasured. She loved them deeply, and they loved her just as fiercely.

Janice shared a very special bond with her grandson, Zachary, speaking with him every day for more than 20 years. He was truly her partner in crime and stood faithfully with her as she bravely battled leukemia and beat it.

Janice will be remembered for her spunky personality, strong convictions, generous heart, and unconditional love for her family. She loved deeply and was deeply loved in return.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Nolan C. McDaniel; brothers, Jerry Franklin and James Franklin; and sister, Joyce Friesen.

She is survived by her brother, Jeronie Franklin and wife Paula Franklin; daughters, Melinda Kaye McDaniel and Tammie McDaniel; grandchildren, Zachary McDaniel, Kristian Kaye Mangrum and husband Isaac Mangrum, and Vanessa Wing and fiancé Michael Thurston; great grandchildren, Avery Kaye and Hudson; along with several nieces, nephews, and many other loving family members.

Janice chose cremation.
