Background
In the morning of April 17th in her home, my mother's heart stopped as she was talking with my brother. The ambulance was called and between the time of arriving at her home and getting her to the hospital, her heart had stopped a few times. She was then put on life support, but unfortunately there was too much damage done to her brain. Even while on life support with the most amount of medication given, her heart was failing. She left us at approximately 430pm with family by her side.
My mother was a very generous person despite having been dealt some difficult circumstances she had lived throughout her life. She raised 3 children, all of whom have had either mental or physical disabilities.
Before she passed, she had been taking care of her one son/my brother, who is developmentally delayed and unable to really care for himself. She was in the process of trying to arrange for him to be in a group home, but unfortunately things didn't move as quickly, and she left us much sooner then any of us ever expected.
My husband and I are now preparing to take the best possible after death care of my mom and give her the honor she deserves. She will be cremated and at a future date, we would like to have a celebration of life for her. We are also left with now trying to find and arrange a forever home for my brother who is special needs as he is not able to afford to continue living in the same house he lived in with our mom.
Some people have asked how they help, and rather then asking for flowers or a donation to a specific charity, a donation toward a celebration of life and helping us take care of my brother is what would be most helpful and meaningful to her. But please don't feel obligated.
