Janice's obituary

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Janice Ahrens on May 20, 2024. Born on March 9, 1932, Janice lived a vibrant and meaningful life, deeply loved and cherished by her family and friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Walter "Ed" Ahrens and brother Aureleo "Leo"  Rosano.  Janice is survived by her devoted sister, Phyllis, and brother-in-law, Jack Cartelli. She is also survived by her children, Steven Ahrens, Susan Ahrens, Kent Ahrens.  Furthermore, Janice is survived by her granddaughter Aileen Ahrens, daughters-in-law Maria Hilda Ahrens and Misty Ahrens.  Lastly, she is also survived by Gina, the spunky feline that was the light of her life in later years.

A woman who found joy in simple pleasures, Janice’s favorite foods were any available when in the company of loved ones. She loved to relax with a cup of coffee shared with friends, always eager for the conversation and camaraderie that accompanied these gatherings. A dedicated follower of Ken Follett's writing, she spent countless hours engrossed in his works, and always had a book recommendation on hand.

Janice had an eclectic taste in music, her favorites spanning from the exotic vocals of Dimash Qudaibergen to the world-renowned pop of Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston. Her television preferences leaned towards classics like Laugh In, The Smothers Brothers, and Barney Miller, while her favorite film was the poignant and powerful The Green Book. An aficionado of dance, Janice delighted in watching any figure skating or dance performances.

While many were taken with competitive sports, Janice was more interested in physical expression. She loved ice skating and tap dancing and had a knack for both art forms. In her younger years she enjoyed amateur competitive ice skating.  Later on she enjoyed putting on shows with her tap dance group.  Post COVID, she could be found at the gym, often following these workouts with a rewarding coffee with the girls.

A woman of bright colors and brighter spirit, Janice was drawn to vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows. She was reserved, but always friendly and welcoming. A pioneering spirit, Janice was the first in her family to receive a bachelor's degree, having graduated from the Boston College nursing school. Her legacy, however, is best encapsulated by her strength and patience, demonstrated throughout the years as she lovingly cared for her disabled husband.

Always adventurous, Janice loved traveling the world and immersing herself in different cultures. Though she was not one for games, she played her biggest role in the grand game of life with tenacity, warmth, and good humor. Her absence will be keenly felt, but her radiant spirit, her nurturing patience, and her vibrant memories will continue to thrive in the hearts of those who loved her.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a cause important to you.  If none comes to mind, Janice loved to take in stray cats so a donation to a no-kill animal rescue would surely have made her smile.
