Janet's obituary
Janet was born in Punxsutawney, PA. in 1945. She was the youngest of five children born to Francis and Lyda (Sherwin) Austin of Rochester Mills, PA. Janet was a graduate of Marion Center High School in Marion Center, PA., Class of 1964. She was active in band.
After high school, Janet attended Pittsburgh Beauty College and became a beautician. She later became a wife for the first time, marrying Ken Kennedy. They had 2 daughters together, Baby Girl Kennedy, who sadly passed away at birth, and Melanie (Kennedy) Campbell.
Known as a dedicated and diligent worker, Janet held various positions in Sales and Customer Service. While working in Punxsutawney, she met and married the love of her life, John M. Svegliato, in 1977. Making their home in Hollidaysburg, Pa, they had a daughter together, Michele Erin Svegliato.
Janet accepted Christ at an early age. Later, she rededicated her life to Christ, along with her husband John, in 1980 while attending Foot-of-Ten Bible Church in Duncansville PA. In 1988, the family moved to Canton, OH. Janet found employment at O'Neils, now Macy’s, in Belden Village where she worked until retirement in 2008.
Janet and John, Michele and Melanie all attended First Christian Church in Canton, Ohio. John and Janet became members and were heavily active in the church, participating in hand-bell choir, volunteering in numerous activities and hosting and participating in Bible Life Groups. Later Janet also attended First Baptist Church of Canton, Oh with Melanie and her family. Janet loved the Lord and shared His love in words and deeds with those with whom she came in contact.
Family was always extremely important to Janet. She was very close with her parents and siblings and visited them often. She was known for being a fun loving aunt, enjoying time with her nieces and nephews. Janet devoted countless hours with her children and grandchildren. She actively supported her daughter's activities including choir and band concerts, orchestra recitals, school and church plays, singing and instrumental competitions, art exhibits, track meets, mission trips as well as other numerous school, church and community projects. Janet spent countless late nights sewing costumes, baking for school parties and fundraisers as well as helping with time-consuming school projects. She was a huge history buff and assisted with many history-related school project.
As for her grandchildren, Janet was a doting grandmother to Annabelle Svegliato Ramsey, Austin (Sarah) Campbell, Michael Campbell, Gloria (Robert) Lyles and Sonja Campbell. She spoiled them on a variety of excursions including trips to McDonalds, Parks and even to her former family home in Pennsylvania. Janet took trips out to Colorado to be with her daughter, Michele and granddaughter Annabelle, making memories and having adventures. She spent several weeks in Colorado after the birth of Annabelle, giving much needed support and wisdom. She enjoyed Grandparent's days at the schools and even participated in the Flat Stanley Activities, taking Flat Stanley to work, to church and even on walks with her dog.
Janet was known for her kindness and caring and continually put others above herself. She would give her last dollar to help someone in need, even if it meant she went without. She also had a creative and spunky side to her, which were known to her siblings and close friends. Janet enjoyed traveling and eating good food with her friends Karen, Becky and Connie.
From 2010 until her passing, Janet battled Alzheimer's Disease. She continued to be concerned about the little ones, making sure that her cat was taken care of, and giving her brand of spunkiness in great doses to those that cared for her, namely her son-in-law, Rodger. She was a truly remarkable and sweet lady.
Janet is preceded in death by her husband John Svegliato, baby daughter, parents and brother Sherwin Austin. Janet leaves behind to carry on her legacy her family; Michele Svegliato and Melanie and Rodger Campbell and grandchildren Annabelle Svegliato Ramsey, Austin and wife Sarah, Michael Campbell, Gloria and husband Robert, and Sonja Campbell. Loved ones who will also miss her are Brother Francis Austin and Sisters Harriet King and Carol Swoope as well as a host of Nephews, Nieces and Great Nephews and Nieces and dear, dear friends.
The family would like to thank those who have already expressed their love and concern for them. They would also like to thank Crossroads Hospice for their compassionate and dedicated care.
The Family invites you to join them for a 'Celebration of Life' Service on August 12th, 2021 starting at 3pm. The service will be held at First Baptist Church of Canton, 4110 38th Street Canton, Ohio 44718.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in Janet's name to Crossroads Hospice, First Christian Church-Missions, First Baptist Church of Canton, Oh, or any charity of your choice.
