Janet's obituary
Janet Ross, born on September 22, 1951, passed away leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and dedication. She was the daughter of the late Clara Ruffin and Thomas Vaughn. Janet is survived by her loving and adoring husband of 53 years, Sidney J. Ross Jr., whom she affectionately called Butchie, and he called her “his sweetness.”
Janet is also survived by her siblings, Darnell (Cheryl) Ruffin and Alvin (Sheila) Ruffin. She was devoted mother to her four children: Euell (Mimi) Ross, Katina (Steven) Walter, Lauren Ross, and Troy Ross. Her love extended to her nine grandchildren: Jalen, Leila, Jacob, Zanaiya, Kai Walter, Josiah Walter, Domonique Ware, Sharde Walter, and Steven Walter Jr. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends who became family, all of whom will miss her dearly.
Janet graduated from Delcastle Technical High School in Wilmington, Delaware, in 1970. After graduation, she worked for a few years at the Tilton Terrace nursing facility. Janet was an avid student of God's Word, the Bible, and on December 14, 1968, she dedicated her life and symbolized her dedication by means of water baptism as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Her love for the ministry led her to become a full-time regular pioneer on May 1, 1993. For 32 years, she was excited and determined to teach anyone she met the truth about Jehovah and the benefits of the Kingdom.
Janet had the privilege to expand her ministry with the French congregation, often using her favorite phrase, “Parlez-vous français” (Do you speak French?), to share kingdom truths. She attended five pioneer schools, one of which she attended together with her loving husband. She delighted in sharing these Bible truths and helping others gain knowledge of God’s Word and apply it in their lives.
Janet was cherished for her radiant smile and contagious laughter. Her home was always open to visitors, and she warmly welcomed everyone, sharing her love generously. She had a passion for decorating, frequently updating her home to reflect each season. Janet also enjoyed wallpapering and painting, and she was famous for her delicious sweet potato pie, lasagna, and mac and cheese.
Janet Ross's life was a testament to her faith, love, and unwavering dedication to her God Jehovah, the ministry, and her family. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those she touched.
