It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of our mom, Janet Rey, who left this world on January 5, 2025. Born on February 4, 1944, Janet's life was an abundant tapestry of devoted family, cherished friends, and vigorous pursuits that brought joy to all who knew her.

Janet is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Renee Figueira and Dawn Appelman, her son-in-law, David Figueira, and her granddaughters, Janette Garcia,  Krista Figueira and Brendalyn Figueira. Janet was predeceased by her cherished daughter, Brenda Appelman, and her beloved parents, Anthony and Ella Silva.

Janet's multifaceted professional journey started as a hairdresser in 1963, then transitioning into a bus driver's role at Gilroy Unified School District in 1978. Her distinctive accomplishment was in driving for the 1984 Olympics, and also attending Olympics in Georgia in 1996 etching her industrious spirit in the minds of many.

Her life was enriched with the birth of her children in 1965, 1966, and 1968, and blossomed further when she walked down the aisle in 1964. As a single mother, Janet personified the spirit of loving tenacity, always making time for her daughters amidst her fortitude.

Her kitchen was aromatic with her favorite foods like her spaghetti and other dishes she made.  Her preferred beverages ranged from iced tea, Diet Coke to kahlua, while her fondness for the musical stylings of Elvis Presley often filled the air. She was an ardent fan of TV shows such as NCIS, CSI, Supernatural and Hallmark, and reveled in the victories of the 49ers, because of her dad.

Her hobbies included bowling, gardening, crafting, and creating handmade Halloween costumes. She had an affinity for vacationing in Hawaii and Alaska also trips to Casinos with friends and found bliss at the local bowling alley. Among her many passions, Janet had a deep-seated love for animals and gardening, and her love for the color purple was reflective of her vibrant personality. Outgoing, giving, and caring, she was always helping others.

Janet's legacy is one of immense kindness and generousity. Through her life, she has shared precious lessons of resilience, love, and compassion. She has filled her daughters' lives with unforgettable memories, teaching them to cook, make jam, love crafting, and tend to their gardens.

We honor Janet Rey today, and all days, for the light she brought into the world, the beauty she planted in our hearts, and the love she sowed in every life she touched.
