Janet's obituary
We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved Janet Nohavec passed to Spirit on July 27, 2022. She was 65 years old. Although her death was unexpected, she had been struggling with her health for sometime. She will be missed beyond words.
A lifelong resident of New Jersey, Janet was born in Belleville and was raised in Franklin Lakes by her parents along with her four siblings, before ultimately settling in Haskell. A medium since birth, she had her first recollections of contact with the spirit realm as a toddler. In her young adult life, she dedicated her life to God as a Roman Catholic nun for five years. Upon leaving the convent, she dedicated her life fully to developing her mediumship and began to think of it as a gift from God, instead of a thing to be feared. It was her hope to break the stigma on mediumship and provide a space for others to learn and grow in that practice. It's because of this desire to help others and dispel darkness that she started her church, The Journey Within in 1996. Janet considered it an honor and privilege to connect others to the higher side of life. She was renowned across the world as a leader in evidential mediumship, wrote several books on the topic, and was featured extensively on television, radio and printed press.
In addition to her spiritual journey, Janet also overcame many personal struggles on her path. She just celebrated 40 years sobriety and sponsored many on their own journey.
Her greatest wish was to see the restoration of the Hydesville School through to completion. The Schoolhouse is located near the historic home of the Fox Sisters, who are considered to be the founders of Spiritualism in the 1830s. The Schoolhouse Restoration Project is going to expand The Journey Within as a Temple of Peace, and offer courses in the study of Spiritualism, Mediumship, Healing and the Esoteric Arts- with the goal of empowering everyone.
Janet is predeceased by her parents, Miro and Helen. She is survived by her siblings (Nancy, Michael, Irene and Mary), her nieces (Amanda, Helen, Emily, Rachel, Jane, Amy and Sarah) and her great nieces and nephews (Ava, Riley, Hailey Jane, Jack, Thea and Eloise). Before her passing, one of Janet's greatest joys was getting to form a very special bond with her great niece Eloise, who brought laughter and light into her life every single day.
Her celebration of life will be held on August 30, 2022 at the Cosmopolitan, in Wayne, NJ at 5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to https://journeywithin.org/don… and will go to supporting the Hydesville School Project.
