Janet's obituary
Janet Matz, 61, of North Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away suddenly, though surrounded by loved ones, on May 23, 2021.
Janet, born on November 9, 1959 to Joseph Thomas & Jeanette Kucinski in Trenton, NJ, immediately brought contagious energy into the world. Janet graduated from The Hun School in 1977 and went on to pursue and earn her degree in Political Science and English at Dickinson College. Recognized by those that knew her as one of the strongest, hardworking, and resilient women to ever walk this earth, friends and family alike were blessed to have her enter their lives. Those same family values permeated throughout Janet’s professional career which included multiple decades across multiple disciplines in the nursing field, a career that she put herself through while raising two little ones.
Always one to follow her passion and wear her heart on her sleeve, Janet pivoted to small business owner. Her time running Specialty Chefs catering company allowed her to share her love of cooking and service to the greater Cleveland, OH area for 4 years - celebrations included homecomings, weddings, graduation parties, and many more special events throughout the community.
Always up for a conversation, Janet built a wide array of friends from all walks of life across the country that she maintained contact with and were privy to her frequent life updates. Whether Trenton, Honolulu, El Paso, Willoughby, Solon, Tampa, or Myrtle Beach Janet left folks with a smile and was always someone who could be counted on to lend an ear or deliver a good story.
However, family was always first and foremost in Janet’s life. A fiercely dedicated mom to both of her children (and a doting Nana to her grandson), her guidance and support has enabled her children to accomplish great things which she proudly called her crowning achievements. Her infectious laugh, witty charm, and unwavering love and support leaves a hole that is unable to be filled but will be something cherished in perpetuity.
Janet was predeceased by her parents Joseph T. Kucinski & his wife Jeanette T. (Fibner); and Aunt Helen Russo. She is survived by her son Donald Joseph (Nina) Matz and loving grandson Donald Jackson Matz; daughter Alexis L. Matz; sister Geraldine L. (Thomas) McGuigan; niece Kara L. (Thomas) Patti; brother Joseph T. (Najla) Jr; nephew Joseph T. Kucinski III; niece Valeshka Kuciniski; as well as grandnieces.
A Mass celebrating the life of Janet T. Matz will be held 11 a.m. Saturday May 21st, 2022 at Divine Mercy (Holy Cross Church), 201 Adeline St., Trenton NJ.
Burial will be private.
