Janet's obituary
We gather to celebrate the life of Janet Lynn Williams, a woman whose sense of humor and care of others, was a joy to those around her.
Janet was born July 7, 1956 in Newark, New Jersey, to Maxine and David Williams. After graduating from Central High School in 1974, she studied Art at Rutgers University, earning her bachelor’s degree in 1978. She married Kevin Campbell in 1980 and moved to Queens, New York, where she worked as a schoolteacher until retiring. In 2004, she moved to Kinston, NC with her mom and daughter.
Janet is survived by her children, April Patterson (Jason) and Kevin J Campbell, her mother Maxine Williams, her siblings David Williams (Patricia), Christine Arnold (Arthur), Darlene Parker and Lester Williams (Bernadette), her grandchildren Jeremiah, Jaxon, Ava, and Khari as well as her former husband Kevin. She was preceded in death by her father, David Williams, and her sister, Josephine Davis.
Janet deeply believed that family and friends were her greatest treasure. She found joy in simple pleasures—playing cards, solving word search puzzles, and spending time with loved ones. As an artist, she created beautiful paintings and ceramic sculptures, using her hands as instruments of beauty. Despite facing numerous health challenges, her spirit remained unbroken.
As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Janet found profound comfort in her belief of a coming paradise, where sickness and suffering would be replaced by perfect health and joy. This hope gave her strength during her most difficult moments, providing a very real and imminent promise of future healing.
Isaiah 33:24 - And no resident will say: “I am sick.”
As we say goodbye, we don’t just mourn a loss. We celebrate a life beautifully lived. A life of creativity, faith, family, and hope. Janet lived with the absolute conviction that a better, healthier life was waiting—a paradise where she would be free from all suffering.
We eagerly await that day when will see her again.
