Jan's obituary

Janet “Jan” L. Johnson passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 16th, 2024 at the age of 90 in Puyallup, Washington. 

Jan was born on January 3, 1934 to Holger and Helen Johnson in Mount Vernon, Washington. She was raised in Burlington where she attended elementary school and graduated from Burlington-Edison High in 1952. Jan attended Skagit Valley College and Western Washington University where she earned her teaching degree. After graduation, she moved to Puyallup where she taught 4th grade for several years and then transitioned to teach art at Kalles Junior High until she retired in 1987. 

Jan was a handcraft director at Campfire USA and a Counselor-in-Training director at Camp Kirby for six summers. In her youth, Jan enjoyed country farm life with her grandparents and later was an avid golfer and bowler. She also enjoyed art and design. Jan’s faith in God was evident throughout her life, and she was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church in Puyallup. 

Jan was preceded in death by her parents, J. Holger Johnson and Helen Johnson. She is survived by a brother, Wayne Johnson (Irlene), nephew Troy Johnson, niece Michelle Brock, and cousins Kay Dewey and Marily Nelson. 

Memorials may be made in Jan's memory to Peace Lutheran Church Scholarship Fund or to a charity of one's choice. A graveside service will be held at the Burlington Cemetery on Thursday, August 8th at 11am.
