Janet's obituary
Janet Irene Reid, age 88, passed away on August 30, 2015, in Northridge, California, surrounded by her family who loved her so very much.
Janet was born on June 7, 1927, in Los Angeles, California to Mason Lawerence Paine and Maude Helen (“Helen”) Woodard Paine, but she grew up in Huntington Park where she attended the local schools and graduated from Huntington Park High School in 1945. She attended the University of California Santa Barbara and graduated in 1949.
She then moved to Kern County and taught school at Kernville High School for two years before returning to the Los Angeles area. She was a legal secretary in Pasadena until 1960 when she returned to teaching with the Los Angeles Unified School District. She was teaching at Sepulveda Junior High School when she retired in 1986. Janet was primarily a Home Economics teacher, which was perfect for her since she loved sewing, cooking, and crafts.
In February 1965, Janet married Donald Lee Reid in Canoga Park. Their daughter, Christina “Chrisie” was born in March 1967. They lived in Sylmar for twenty years. After Chrisie was married to Christian Lim in 1989, Janet and Don moved to Grass Valley, in Northern California. They enjoyed living there but decided to move closer to their daughter’s family in 2001, when they relocated to Bakersfield. In 2006, they would relocate again to Friendly Valley, in the Santa Clarita Valley to be closer to their family. Chris and Chrisie are the parents of six children: Caleb Lee, Jessicah Sue, Micah Christian, Maribeth Christina, Jonah Mason, and Rebekah Irene Lim.
Janet belonged to the Bakersfield Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Kern County Genealogical Society as well as the General Society of Mayflower Descendants and other genealogy societies. Janet loved genealogy research and had been tracing her family tree for many decades.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband Donald. Don passed away just five weeks before Janet on July 23, 2015. She was also preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her brother Richard Mason Paine of Roseville, California and her daughter, son-in-law, six grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
