Janet's obituary
Obituary for Janet Holland
Janet Amelia Lane Holland will be remembered for her compassion, service, and devotion to those she loved and even those she just met. Typically found with a smile on her face and an amount of energy that far outsized her small stature, Janet’s leadership and participation in cancer support groups, community food distribution programs, and other services made an impact wherever she lived.
Born Dec 12, 1947, in Texas City, Texas, to Estaleta Venus Gieseke Lane and John Durward Lane, Janet soon was joined by her younger brother John David Lane. The two siblings lost their father to cancer when Janet was just eight years old. Her mother, Estaleta, remarried Virgil Leroy (Robby) Robbins and brought a new sibling set into the family: Shirlene (Jeri), Ronald (Ronnie), and Pamela (Pam).
As a teenager, Janet fell in love and married her high school sweetheart, Henry Wayland (Buddy) Holland, Jr., on March 4, 1966 in Tyler, Texas. Together, they had 2 sons, Jeffrey Lane and Bradly Shane. Showing her ever-present grit and determination, Janet later completed her studies and graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington to become an English and Social Studies teacher in the Arlington ISD.
After raising their family in Arlington, in 1991, Janet and Buddy moved to Denison, Texas, where she taught school. While Buddy served as a church elder, Janet served the congregation and the larger community faithfully and with great love. She and Buddy faced health problems together with courage and amazing dedication to each other.
A few years after Janet and Buddy had retired, in 2012, they moved to Waxahachie, Texas. Often found reading a new novel or her Bible, Janet was equally determined to make a community difference by volunteering at the local hospital’s cancer unit, leading a cancer support group at church, and being a constant prayer warrior for many. With both Janet and Buddy facing health struggles, Buddy and Janet moved to Midlothian, Texas, in 2023. She continued to be a beacon of light but passed away unexpectedly on January 9, 2024.
Her zeal and flurry of activity will be missed by her family and friends. She was devoted to those who remain behind: her loyal husband, Buddy; her sons and their wives, Jeff and Brenda, Shane and Lori; her six grandchildren, Briana Adair, Josiah Holland, Hannah Patterson, William Holland, Ellianna Holland, and Becca Holland; as well as her great-granddaughter, Landry Adair. Please keep them in your prayers.
A memorial service will be held at Creekside Church, 5401 E Main St, Midlothian, TX 76065 on January 20, 2023, at 3:00 with a family gathering preceding at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, Buddy asks that memorial gifts be made to the ministry of Jeff at Pioneer Bible Translators - https://pioneerbible.org/jeff…
