It is with huge sorrow that the family of Janet Bell Fowler announces her passing on January 10, 2026 at the age of 86. Born in Hartford, Ohio in 1939 to Robert William Bell and Thelma Mae Bell, Janet was an actress and musician, starring in numerous stage productions over her career, winning several awards and garnering accolades for performances in such plays as Childe Byron, A Shot in the Dark, A Christmas Carol, Loot, Bottom’s Up, The Hostage, Measure for Measure, Scapino!, The Country Wife, Our Father, The Patrick Pearse Motel, and more.
Janet attended Oberlin College as a music major, skilled at a variety of instruments including French horn and piano, and then Yale School of Drama afterward, where she honed her craft as an actress. Janet’s first son, Jeremy, was born in 1963 and then her, second, Matthew, came in 1975. Through her life Janet lived in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Virginia, New York, Maine, Texas, and Arkansas, residing in Manhattan the longest, for 25 years. After retiring from acting in the late ‘90s, Janet got her degree in interior design, starting her own consulting business which accentuated her love of French culture and style.
Surviving Janet are her sister Donna Bell, her son Jeremy Fowler-Lindemulder, her son Matthew Fowler, grandchildren Ash, Gretel, and Chloe, along with great-grandchildren Parker and Luke. Janet was a force of peace, love, and creativity and she will be missed greatly by all those who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace.
