Janet's obituary

It is with profound and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Janet Marie Cordero on November 5th, 2023, after a lengthy struggle with complications of heart failure. She was a beloved wife of 44 years to her besotted and devoted husband Manuel Cordero. She was a proud and fierce mother of 4 beautiful children and a lot of their friends. She was an honorably discharged Air Force veteran, achieving the rank of Technical Sergeant and was an accomplished and awarded Crypto-Analyst for the National Security Agency. She was a devout and practicing Catholic. Janet Cordero was a woman of singular wit, keen insights, sensitivity, and deep convictions. The world is less magical without her mirth. Born Janet Marie Libell in NY in 1959 to Clifford and Mary Catherine Libell, Janet is the oldest of 7 siblings; Robert, Katherine, William, Edward, Marybeth, and Margaret. The family lived in Uniondale, Long Island while her father worked as a New York City Police officer. She began college in 1978 at Stony Brook University to study language where she met her husband Manuel Cordero. The two bonded over the study of linguistics, though Manuel was studying biological science.  After falling deeply in love the two married in 1979 and joined the United States military together. They served in the Air Force, and traveled the globe and worked in military intelligence before moving onto careers in medical and technology administration. Janet gave birth to 4 children; Jessica, Erica, Rebecca and Manuel Thomas. She loved her children and she would share her joy and happiness as each grew into adulthood and forged their paths in life. Although distance sometimes separated them Janet never let herself be far away from their lives and hearts, even while ill. Janet's family remains strong and loving. Though her brothers and sisters lived in Florida for much of hers and their adult life, they stayed connected and they feel a deep love for her and sorrow for her passing. Janet left this world gracefully, almost stoically. Staying true to her nature as in life, once she determined that her illness was at it's end, she left on her terms and remained surrounded by love and family members while she did so. Her daughter remarked "Once my mom makes up her mind, that is it.", after witnessing the final act of her mothers resolve. Her husband Manuel never left her side during her illness. Manuel believes that he never needed to win the lottery, as he was surrounded in abundance everyday for the 44 years they were together in love, kindness, and friendship.  A truer partnership would be the stuff of Hollywood dreams.  Her passing leaves a deep and resounding ache in the hearts and lives of her loved ones, who are comforted that she was met on the other side of life by her parents, family, and friends to bring her forth into the unformed future in the place we all go when our time here is over. We are so proud of her, and are irrevocably diminished in her absence. We are left with so much love to give on her behalf, stories to tell of her, and the knowledge that she will occupy a place in our hearts and minds forever. She will always be cherished, loved, and remembered as a generous, warm, deeply caring, incredibly intelligent and confoundingly funny woman.
