Janet's obituary

Janet Finlayson Aleman passed away peacefully on April 18, 2024, after a courageous cancer battle. Janet was a devoted mom to Travis Aleman, who preceded her in death in October 2022. She was also a devoted fan of the Auburn Tigers and Atlanta Braves, passions she shared with her son. Janet was a dedicated Christian and an ardent student of the Bible. She loved conversations with everyone and loved to listen to music. She had an encouraging heart and a hearty laugh that brightened everyone’s day.

Janet was born April 23, 1954, in Charlotte, NC, to Carl and Lucy Finlayson. She was the youngest of the wonderful Finlayson sisters: Diane Finlayson Sanders of Mooresville, NC, and Loretta Finlayson Tompkins, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Garinger High School in Charlotte, and then enjoyed careers at Southern Bell, Providence Christian Academy, and Scholastic Images.

She is survived by her beloved dog Tucker, many special friends, co-workers, and a loving support system. She is also survived by her sister Diane Sanders; the Aleman family; nieces & nephews; many great-nieces and -nephews; and a special Cutie Patootie great-great-nephew, who brought her joy with his dance moves.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, from 11 am until 1pm at George Pierce Park at 55 Buford Highway NE, Suwanee, GA 30024. Please gather on the back patio of the Community Recreation Center-Senior Center, Prime Timers Pointe. Please come share some food, stories, and fellowship as we remember Janet.

Donations may be made in her name to Hope for the Journey (a 503(c) nonprofit organization) or Cancer Ministry of North Metro Baptist Church, 1026 Old Peachtree NE, Lawrenceville, GA 30043.
