Jane's obituary
Jane “Janie” Maria Brown (Stajger) was born on February 9th, 1949 in Nuremberg, Germany, and died September 3rd, 2023 in Kirkland, WA, after a long and steadfast battle against cancer.
Jane grew up in West Mifflin, PA with her parents and enjoyed living close to her many aunts, uncles, and cousins. After graduation from the University of Pennsylvania in 1970, Jane enlisted in the United States Army Corps, where she served as an Officer. This is also where she met her would-be husband of nearly 51 years, Steve, a fellow Officer, while receiving her housing assignment at Carlisle Barracks, PA. They were married in 1972 and stationed together in Baumholder, Germany along with their toy poodles, Gypsy and Szabo. After they both retired from the Army in 1974, they returned to the US and began their next great adventure: parenthood. Their son, Jason, was born in 1977 followed by their daughter, Mariah, in 1981.
The family moved to their dream home in Mill Creek, WA in 1987, where they forged new friendships with wonderful neighbors, and where the children eventually grew to adulthood. In 1993, Jane opened her dog grooming shop, Puppy Love Pet Grooming, still a woman-owned and operated business almost 30 years later. Jane was a fierce and loving mother to her beloved children whom she guided and guarded with a strength that was unrivaled by even the most ferocious mama bear. She remains the center of her granddaughters’ universe, forever being the most perfect grandmother in existence. An avid traveler, she and Steve traveled across Europe and to many of the most idyllic and historic sites around the globe, collecting beautiful memories and lasting stories as they went. She was a vivacious reader, an avid crafter, an animal lover, and an enjoyer of all things bread and chocolate. Genealogy was a great passion of hers, especially finding family members who participated in the American Revolution. When not scouring the corners of the earth for new family connections, you could probably find her in her chair crocheting baby blankets, hats and scarves for local charity organizations while watching Jeopardy or the world news. Her best nights were spent seated at the dining table piled high with food, surrounded by her family and their many spoiled dogs.
There will never be enough space to list her many accomplishments, nor enough words to describe her vibrant and unyielding spirit. She was a force of nature, a woman with a spine of steel and a heart of pure gold. Every life she touched was better for the luck of it, and she will always be remembered in even the smallest details of our lives.
Jane is survived by her loving husband Steve, her son Jason (Misty), daughter Mariah (Ethan), granddaughter Morgan, Aunt Rose (Russ) Russell, Cousin Joe (Peg) Barron, and many cherished extended family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all.
A memorial service will be held in Jane’s honor on Wednesday, September 27th, 2023 at 11:30A at Tahoma National Cemetery. All who knew and loved Jane are welcome to attend.
We love you, Tata.
