Jan Richard (Corky, Dad, Pop) Smith, 79, of Manton, CA, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on February 24, 2023.

Richard was born on 2-22-44  in Harrisburg Pennsylvania.  Moving to California as child proved to be trying at times, but Dad persevered through it all. Moving his 3 small children to northern California for a better life away from the streets and sound of Los Angeles, he found his home in the small community of Tehama County. He  loved everything outdoors, from star gazing, to fishing, collecting rocks or searching for arrowheads. Richard met his lifelong friend Kevin Weaver shortly after settling in, and they remained in each others everyday lives up until Richard's passing. He was a huge blessing and the kind of friend everyone hopes for. Richard knew what a great friend he had in Kevin. Prior to meeting his wife Carmen, he added another daughter to his ever growing family. Richard and Carmen met in 1977 and as he accepted and loved her two daughters as his own, the family continued to grow. Richard and Carmen were very happy together and pretty much inseparable until his passing. He was the love of her life and best friend and if you saw the way he looked at her, you could tell the feeling was mutual. Richard was preceded in death by both of his parents, and 2 of his brothers Darryl (Dee) and Edward (Hap). He is survived by his wife Carmen of 40 years, his brother Randy, son Jon (Nelli) Smith, daughter Debbie (Mike) Zenda, daughter Teri (Rick) Beam, daughter Stacey (Jerry) Smith, and step daughters Mandy Burkhart and Jessie Herd. He leaves behind 12 grandchildren (Trisha, Jason, Joseph, Kristyn, Jarrett, Derek, Timothy, McKenzie, Blake, Brooklyn, Miranda and Rex) and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and nieces and nephews. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed! His legacy will carry on for generations to come. There will be a celebration of life at the Manton Grange Hall located at 31555 Forward Rd. Manton, CA on April 23nd at 2pm.
