Health reasons prevent my being able to attend Jimmy Burke's memorial service. I have been friends with Jimmy since we were children. We lived across the street from each other on Howard Avenue in Columbus, GA, and we spent many hours playing together. We were also in the Rose Hill Baptist Church Youth Group and Prophecy '72 Youth Choir together. He and his twin, Jerry, have always been like brothers to me. Although we weren't as close during our adult years, the memories of our childhood are extra special to me. There is the famous picture of Jimmy, Jerry, and me sitting on my little red couch together. I can see it in my mind now; I'm in the middle, and they are on either side of me. My mom always liked to tell me about looking out our front door and seeing me chasing them down the sidewalk with a switch in my hand. That story was always so funny to our parents because I was so much smaller than they were. My mom could never tell which twin was Jimmy and which was Jerry, but I could always tell them apart. He will always be "Jimmy" to me because that's what he was all those years of our childhood. I could share lots of stories about growing up together, and I will cherish those memories forever. Such special memories of such a wonderful "brother."

Jim and Nancy and our family raised 3 boys each during some wonderful times. I am so very sorry that Jim’s illness impacted his life as it did. He enjoyed life so much, left a huge legacy and will be terribly missed. My love to Nancy, Ryan, Will and Zac. 💕

I loved Jim Burke. I’ll always remember how he included me in the recreation ministry at FBC Jonesboro at a time I needed it. He was a solid encourager to me, always upbeat and interested in what was going on in my life. He will be missed but his impact was huge. Prayers and love for Nancy, the boys and all the family.

Though I only met Jim a couple of times, through his story, I can tell he was a good person.

Mrs.Nancy, for my whole life I’ve heard my parents (Time and Melinda Coop) speak fondly of both you and Mr.Jim. I’m so thankful for the huge impact both of you had on my parents. They have such great admiration for you; you helped shape them into the wonderful people they are. Thank you for that. I will be praying over you and your family as you endure this loss. May you cling to Jesus and may he carry you as you grieve. Much love to you.

Went to church at Rose Hill Baptist with Jimmy for many years. He dated my sister. Played a lot of basketball and softball with Jimmy and Jerry. Both were very good players but most of all they were so good natured. Played hard, played to win but were always so pleasant and nice. Memories of Ed Hendricks. Larry Keys, Charlie Mccrrary, Jim Taylor, Wes Townsend, Lamar Weaver, Daryl Harris, Steve Smith and I could go on and on. Enjoyed the time I spent with all of them. Condolences to the family and know that Jimmy left a positive mark on all of us. I am tired of seeing old friends pass away. I guess that is part of life but I am thankful for the times we shared. Sincerely, Buddy Wilkes
