JAMES DOUGLAS VANCE, SR.
ROANOKE – James Douglas "Doug" Vance, 80, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday (October 26, 2022) at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
In keeping with Doug's wishes, a private memorial was held for family and friends in his home.
Mr. Vance was born in Elkins, W.V., on May 9, 1942, the son of the late Clay Henry and Edith (Hebb) Vance. After high school, Doug held a variety of jobs including a bread delivery driver, insurance salesman and automotive parts clerk. An excellent singer in his day, Doug began a travelling ministry in the 1980s called, The Singing Vances. He could often be found in his home studio singing his favorite Christian melodies of which, “Written In Red” was his standard. Doug also loved cars of which he owned many over the years. He loved to spend his weekends washing, waxing and detailing them.
Doug is survived by his wife, Patricia (O’Brien); a brother, Robert (Jeanette); children Melissa (Kevin Berg) and James, Jr. (Kyle West); step-daughter, Mary Catherine (Kenneth Johnson); grandchildren Antoine Evans (Trina), Logan Bower, Rodica Cline, Sarah Berg (Patrick Riley) and Nathan Berg; great grandchildren Dominic Benard, Evan Emmanuel, and Stetson Cline; as well as many friends and extended family.
He was predeceased by his parents.
