James's obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James "Big Papa" Talley on December 14, 2023. Born on January 28, 1959, James, also fondly known as Big Papa, was a man of great charisma and love.
James was a beloved husband, father, son, and brother. He is survived by his wife, Tracy Talley, whom he married in 2009, creating a loving family composed of their children, Christanna Marie Dean and Charles Wesley Dean. His mother, Vida Talley Hughes, and siblings, Rita Eileen Owens, Dawn Dewaynette Fleming, Lorna Lurleen Ellis, Natalia Marie Bowman, and Brian Bowman, also share in the loss. Sadly, he was predeceased by his father, James Bruce Bowman Jr.
James was a attendee of the Lighthouse Christian Church and was deeply committed to the Tranquility Manor Bird Rescue and Sanctuary, where he loved and cared for rescued birds. His love for birds was unrivaled, and his dream was to see the sanctuary expand with larger flight aviaries for the birds.
Known for his bold and fun-loving personality, James was an adventurous soul, exuding a strong alpha presence. He was kind, loving, playful, and always filled with confidence. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life like a good steak, baked potato, a tall glass of green tea. James was also an avid Harley rider and enjoyed watching the sunsets by the ocean. Above all, he was known for being a source of joy and laughter, spreading positivity wherever he went.
His gift of faith left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He often shared that fear hinders most people from achieving their dreams, but trusting in God's promise and seeking his will would yield blessed results.
One of James' proudest accomplishments was becoming a husband and father. He cherished the freedom to build a better life for his family and the birds that came his way. This purpose-driven life is his legacy, one that perpetuates his love for his family and his dedication to the sanctuary. As we remember James today, let us reflect on the joy and laughter he brought into our lives and keep his dream alive in our hearts.
