James's obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. James Sluyter on June 11, 2025. Born on November 11, 1951, he led a rich and full life filled with family, friendship, and countless moments of joy.

James is survived by his loving partner, Beverly Johnson, his cherished daughters Tanya Sluyter, and his esteemed son-in-law, Wayne Cruz. His legacy also continues through his beloved granddaughter, Christine Tosney. His caring brother, Frank Sluyter, and loving sister, Susan Cristo, also mourn his loss.

James retired from a dedicated career at UPS in 2016, after serving the company commendably for 42 years. His professionalism and commitment remain one of his greatest accomplishments, revered by his colleagues and loved ones. Besides his exemplary work ethic, James was also known for his sense of humor and exceptional cooking skills, particularly his world-class Reuben sandwiches.

An ardent fan of Neil Diamond, James had an eclectic taste in music that reflected his vibrant personality. His love for sports was evident in his support for the Leicester City football team. However, his most enjoyed recreational activity was spending quality time with his family, especially playing dominos with his son-in-law, Wayne. Those close, cherished moments, filled with laughter and camaraderie, will be sorely missed.

James was a man of great passion and had a deep love for animals. His cause of choice was the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), to which he devoted time and resources regularly. His kindness and compassion for living beings were a true reflection of his character.

James was a loving partner, a caring father, a doting grandfather, a supportive brother, and a great friend. He was truly one-of-a-kind, and his absence will be profoundly felt. His memories, however, will forever be etched in our hearts, and his legacy will live on through the lives he has touched. As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and countless unforgettable moments.
