James's obituary
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of James Edward "Doc" Slone, a loving father, husband, and family man. Born on March 13, 1965, in Paintsville, Kentucky, James embarked on his final journey on November 22, 2023, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, leaving a legacy of kindness, inquisition, and resilience.
James had a complicated personality. Despite his past, he could be counted on for his kind heart and inquiring mind. This mantra guided his actions and taught those around him about the importance of kindness and resilience.
As a testament to his dedication and professional prowess, his career spanned 35 years at Boeing, where his passion for aviation allowed him to serve in diverse roles throughout the country. However, James often stated that his pride and joy were his three children, who became his greatest accomplishment.
James leaves behind his wife, Gretchen Slone, and his children, Marissa Patton, Teri Thompson, James Slone, and Justin Chapman, along with seven grandchildren – McKenzie Patton, Jett Patton, Macy Kate Patton, Adalyn Thompson, Reese Thompson, Marlene Thompson, and Emelia Thompson. His sisters, Geneva Slone and Shari Marcum, and his brother, John Pope, will remember him fondly. His uncles, Bill Slone and Woody Slone, and aunt, Ruth Endicott, will also cherish the memories of James.
He now joins his parents, Doris Jean Pope and Roger Slone, who predeceased him. While the absence of James will be profoundly felt, his memory, as well as his legacy, will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
As we mourn his departure, we also celebrate his life and the lasting impressions he left on us all.A Celebration of Life will be held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in early 2024, with additional details to follow.
