James's obituary

James Hayward Saker of East Lansing, Michigan. It's How You Finish That Counts – James did it his way. Loving life with his whole heart. Serving others with integrity and care. Finding fun and laughter in every moment. Giving others a life worth following. He leaves a legacy of thoughtfulness, honor, and respect. James Hayward Saker, age 91, of East Lansing MI, formerly of Detroit, MI, passed away peacefully, Sunday, December 27, 2020, in his son's home with his children who love him. James was born December 29, 1928, in Cleveland, OH the oldest child of Harold and Lovene (Parks) Saker. He graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School where he also completed his residency in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Allergy and Clinical Immunology in 1963. He served as a Captain of the US Army Medical Corps between 1957 and 1960, was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and by the American Board of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and was a Fellow of both the American Academy and American College of Allergy and Asthma and Immunology. In addition, he was a Fellow of American College of Chest Physicians. He was past President of the Michigan Allergy and Asthma Society. He served as Chief of Staff E.W. Sparrow Hospital. He practiced until 2009 and then retired. James married Charlotte Louise Crane, and with her raised five children, Steven, Douglas, Timothy, Susan and Johnathon. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by Glenn Dreisbach - his closest friend and husband to his sister. Surviving James are his wife Joan (Dennis) Saker of Collingwood, Ontario, sister Nancy (Saker) Dreisbach of Detroit, MI, five children, Steven Saker of Omaha, NE, Douglas Saker of Redondo Beach, CA, Timothy Saker of Atlanta, GA, Susan (William) Saker-Johnson of Las Vegas NV, and Johnathon (Caryn) Saker of Atlanta, GA, his nine grandchildren, Jason, Matthew, Lindsay, Marina, Andrew (Hazel), Philip (Laura), Elisabeth (Steven), Claire and Nicholas, and his four great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Caleb, Marlys and Christian.

A Celebration of Life service will be held privately for the family. Interment will be at White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery, Troy, MI in the Saker plot alongside his parents.
