James's obituary
James Roy Johnson Jr. Better known as Jimmy Johnson, aged 62, left this Earth for his heavenly home on January 29th. 2026.
He was born on March 5th, 1963 in Osceola, Arkansas. He was the firstborn of Jewel & Jimmy Roy.
Jimmy grew up in Germantown Tennessee and graduated from Germantown High Schol, Class of 1981.
Following graduation he continued his work at the Germantown fire department that he had begun in high school. He continued to work there for many years and later used those skills at Memphis Motorsports Park.
Jimmy changed his direction, worked in sales for Volvo, Schilling Jeep, & several other car dealerships in and around the Memphis area.
He became an OTR truck driver and completed his working career. Jimmy loved interacting with customers and he enjoyed working with the public. He was known for his friendliness, charm and his killer smile. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and was a NASCAR and racing enthusiast. He knew everything there was to know about any kind of racing, whether it be ethanol, a gas burner or an alcohol burner. Jimmy knew all about it and could talk in detail about any kind of racing or any of the drivers or team owners, he like going to the different tracks and visiting with as many race car drivers as he could.
Jimmy cherished his son Taylor and he loved spending quality time with him. He considered Taylor, his greatest joy.
Jimmy was proceeded in death by his grandparents, Rev Roy & Ethel Johnson, Robert & Vellar Godsey and Knott & Maple Jones, also his Aunts Sue Sexton, Martha Gonzalez and Debbie Dawson his Uncles Robert Godsey Jr.(Buck), Oscar Gonzales, Sr. Larry Godsey, David Jones and Charles Mullins Sr.
He was also proceeded in death by his beloved mother Jewel Dean Carr Royer.
He is survived by his son, Taylor Johnson & wife Ashton of Chattanooga, Tennessee, his sister Kim Street & her husband Joe of Henderson, Tennessee, his niece Lanie Street of Orlando, Florida and his father and bonus mom, Jimmy Roy & Pam Jones Johnson of Satartia, Mississippi.
He is also survived by his many aunts, uncles and cousins from Osceola Jonesboro, Marion, Mountain Home & Benton Arkansas. Plus so many Tennessee friends and family.
A visitation and celebration of life will be held at the Osceola -South Mississippi County Chamber of Commerce 116 North Maple Street, Osceola, Arkansas 72370 on Saturday, February 21st. 2026
a service of remembrance will begin at 1:00 p.m. officiated by pastor Keith Stokes, New Life, UPC of Osceola and a reception to immediately follow.
