James's obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr. James "Rolly" Rollason, affectionately known as Rolly, but preferred James. Born on September 5, 1942, he departed from this life on July 3, 2023. His jovial and mischievous spirit will forever be cherished by those who knew him.
James is lovingly survived by his daughters Angela Goertzen and Kim Rollason, his son Robert Kermode, his son-in-law Jason Goertzen, and his daughter-in-law Jodi Kermode. His memory is also kept alive through his adoring grandchildren Michael Goertzen, Marcus Janzen, Tyler Kermode, Jacob Goertzen, Katrina Janzen, Breanna Goertzen, and Samantha Kermode; as well as his cousins Michael, Karin, Dan, Brenda, Stephen, and Louise Raven. He was a beloved brother-in-law to Christina and Steven Abbott and Bob Fink, and an admired uncle to Bryce Morris.
James was unfortunately predeceased by his dear wife of many years, Joan Rollason, and his parents Margaret and Harry Rollason. He was also predeceased by his mother-in-law May Fink, his father-in-law Phil Fink, his aunt Irene Raven, and his uncles Aubrey Raven and Victor Cumming.
James shared a wonderful life with Joan, whom he married in 1974, and together, they had their children. Later in life, he was blessed with numerous grandchildren and even a great-grandchild on October 25, 2019. His family expanded over the years, as did the love within it.
A resident of Abbotsford, BC, since 1976, James moved to Edmonton, AB, following his retirement from J&J Rollason Trucking in 2011. Among his many joys in life, he had a soft spot for Stella Artois and was known for his lessons in patience and honesty.
James leaves behind an impressive legacy, not least of which includes pulling a 300 lb halibut up over the side of his fishing boat by himself. However, his enduring love of all things outdoors, a passion he shared with his family, is perhaps the most cherished aspect of his multi-faceted legacy.
We remember James as a man finally free, his spirit as expansive and embracing as the great outdoors he loved so much.
