James's obituary
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of James Hughes who was born on the 9th of January, 1953 and departed this life on the 6th of January, 2024. Known for his fun-loving, quirky, and easy-going personality, James touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed.
James had a deep fondness of the arts and at one point aspired to be a jeweler, and always had a knack for “tinkering”. He was a man of kind heart, always showing consideration and patience with others - a lesson he continuously shared.
Working as a Psychiatric Technician for 50 years, James left a considerable mark in his profession. He served adults and adolescents in the penal code system for the State of California, not only as a caregiver but also as an advocate. His commitment to safety and rights led him to become a union representative, ardently defending his co-workers and clients.
Reflecting on life at his 45th high school reunion, James described his journey as being “happy, complex, grueling, sad, blissful, competitive, repenting, unforgiving, soulful, loving, and spiritual.” This touching reflection serves as a testament to his experience and perception of life, aptly summarizing the legacy he leaves behind.
His love for his family and friends was immeasurable, and they will greatly miss his loving kindness and infectious smile. He is predeceased by his beloved father Emmitt, mother Emma, and his siblings Ralph, Erma, Roy, and Emmit Hughes. James’ legacy will continue to live on through his loving partner Shenina, his children Andre and Kendra and five grandchildren, siblings Edward Hughes (Shirley H.) Geraldine Bryant, and Linda Martin, his sister-in-law Vickie Hughes, and his extended family and friends who will forever cherish the memories they shared.
